AVARICE LEADS TO GREED
Avarice is what the inner condition of the heart gives rise to greed, which is typically categorized as excessive acquisition and excessive retaining of money and possessions: an overflowing shopping cart or anything that is a “great deal”.” What is Avarice? It is the holding on to one’s possessions with an unyielding grip.
“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist of what is the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15
Like the other vices rooted in pride, greed is a do-it-yourself method of finding happiness, instead of being content to what God has given us and depending on His provision—the opposite to generosity. This virtue is about freedom – freedom from being too attached to money and whatever money can buy as opposed to a greedy person’s tight-fisted grip on money as his or hers. The generous is ready to give with pleasure when and where they feel they should. Here is the perfect test: is giving away things easy and enjoyable?
Our giving always needs to leave adequate provision for ourselves and those under our care. This is a matter of practical wisdom. The problem comes when one must determine what is excess.
Yes, it is harder to give away something that you have sweated over to acquire. It is always much easier to be generous with other people’s money. Finally it comes down to a simple question: do we possess our possessions or are we possessed by them? “By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud.” Ezekiel 28:5
It is possible to have a second related vice: first we over-acquire, and then we over-trash. This is a lifestyle of excessive and careless spending. We are also likely to be in dire need for more money, which becomes a vicious circle. “Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes 5:10
The fear of poverty may come from having experiencing hard times, even coming from having parents that were affected by the Great Depression. This fear of want dies hard. This need may follow one for an entire lifetime.
Consider Jesus’ example of voluntary poverty. It wasn’t to live on crusts of bread within bare walls. Rather, the point is that a fully human life is to live in a way appropriate to human beings. Our possessions are meant to serve our needs, rather than our lives being centered on service to our possessions and our desires for them. Ironically, the more money and stuff we possess, the more money, time, and energy we need to protect and care for it all. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19
“The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” 1 Timothy 6:10 Why is that? It happens because money itself becomes a goal. It becomes a great incentive to become self-sufficient so we can deny our need for God.
One solution, which is one of the oldest pieces of advice, is tithing. Tithing like fasting is the habitual practice of limiting our use of a good thing to regularly and continually loosen our attachment to it. After all it’s all God’s money. It is ours as the gifts of God for the people of God.
Most people dread the thought of leaving this world. Why? The reason is that so many have stored up their treasures on earth, not in heaven. Each day brings us closer to death. If your treasures are on earth that means each day brings you closer to losing your treasures.
The things of this world may be pleasing to the eye, but they never truly satisfy. When you measure things by what you own, then you have ordered your life around the things that are temporary – leaving no room for anything else – not even God. You are actually living in your own little kingdom where you have an unending focus on your own personal needs. This world is not your permanent home!
Instead use your money for good, and be rich towards those in need. Then you will store up treasure in heaven, a much bigger kingdom that is eternal. It’s not what you’ve got; it’s what you use that makes the difference. The consequences of our character will survive the grave. No one has ever sacrificed for his Lord without being richly repaid.
In the beginning God created both earth and heaven. God has made everything beautiful in its time. Your home is in heaven. You are just traveling through this earth. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights. James 1:17
It is safer to believe in God even if there is no proof that one exists. Pascal’s Wager explains briefly: if you’re wrong, you lose nothing; if you’re right, you gain everything. What I will lose if I wager wrongly! There is an eternity of suffering waiting for me should I wager against God and be wrong. What do I lose by following God and there is no God? Very little. What do I lose by not following God should there be a God? Everything.
Always ask, what if you’re wrong? I’d rather live a life of a fool for God then not believe and end up wrong. I’d rather live a life of a fool for God then not believe and end up wrong.
You are absolutely right: only God can judge you. That should be one of the scariest truths in your life.
Be careful on how you play your cards, as the eternity of hell is too awful. The question is NOT “Why would a loving God send anyone to hell?” The question is “Why would anyone choose hell over a loving God?” It’s okay to be afraid of HELL.
One throws himself on God but if he or she should need the other help in our temporal world, there it should be. Possessions stand between us and God. So long as the surrender is incomplete, fear still abides.
God would have us fling ourselves on God‘s Providence without any reservations – taking no thought of tomorrow. St. Francis claimed that “only when the sacrifice is ruthless and reckless will the higher safety arrive.”
JESUS WISHES TO SPEAK TO YOU.
“I love you.
I spent forty days in the desert without eating or drinking. I spent all My time with My Father in preparation for My public life.
It was at the end of My stay in the desert that Satan came to tempt Me three times. He wanted Me to reject the Father’s plan for Me which meant suffering and death and to adopt one where I would be accepted as the Savior without any suffering at all. The devil’s plan was the complete opposite of what the Father wanted.
I had to decide which plan I would follow: the Father’s which would end with My Passion and Death on the cross or Satan’s where the world would be handed to Me if I knelt and adored him. As the Son of God, I chose the Father’s plan for Me and rejected the one proposed by Satan. The devil’s plan would surely have filled Me with pride and offended grievously My Father whom I love with all My heart.
In all of Satan’s temptations to you and to Me, there is at bottom the vice of pride and the offense against Our Heavenly Father.
Be united to Me and you will refuse Satan’s temptations and you will follow the Father’s will for you. Pray that you will never give in to temptation. With Me, you will always win. I love you.”
The above messages came to Father Melvin Doucette:
Fr. Melvin Doucette was ordained to the priesthood on and joined the Missionaries of Africa for 29 years in Africa. In contemplative prayer every morning, Fr. Doucette receives by interior locution “messages from heaven” to share with the public.
God divinely inspired the BIBLE . How do we know? Each of eight accurate predictions show a high probability mathematically. The probability of one individual fulfilling eight prophecies have odds of 1 in 10 17 (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000). Jesus Christ fulfilled all prophecies, therefore the Bible MUST BE TRUE.
The Old Testament indicates another 40 astonishing predictions.
Christianity experiences stunning growth—from approximately 3.8 million adherents in China in 1956 to an estimated 87 to 100 million Christians today.
In the end, one Christian conversion will benefit the whole family. The gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and deliverance will help the whole family. A prayer of deliverance of evil spirits will leave any member of the family with a complete sense of peace immediately. A prayer of healing from a Christian disciple produces 80% healing. The remaining healing comes from continued prayer of praise and thanksgiving until all the healing is complete. This healing comes from the Holy Spirit through the power in the Name of Jesus Christ. No other god or deity or doctor uses this power. This proves the TRUTH OF CHRISTIANITY.
BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS CAN’ T ALL BE WRONG!
Christianity is not a philosophy, but it is a relationship with God, your Creator, in Christ TODAY. It is not knowledge of abstract principles. How do we know this? Healing takes place TODAY in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Many Christian disciples use the gift of healing. They also use deliverance to deliver away evil spirits influencing people. These evil spirits cause depression, addictions and illness through all forms of stress. Only the Name of Jesus Christ makes healing and deliverance possible.
HOW IS JESUS STILL ALIVE TODAY?
Jesus is alive today! He heals today (through His followers) and in many cases it is realized immediately. How else can you explain the explosion of Christianity, the world’s largest religion, on earth: 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31 percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.
Christians know and feel His Presence; they communicate with Him personally; Christian prayers are always answered.
This author has been given the Gift of Healing only because he is a Christian Lay Missionary, who travels two to three places every year. On his last trip to Columbia he successfully transferred his Gift to his Spanish translators, who were able to heal as he did. He has healed Muslims to their great surprise.
He also delivers away evil spirits along with their healing. All those who are delivered from evil spirits feel a complete physical sense of peace.
DREAMS AND VISIONS
God can give a message to those non-Christians to change their heart. God knows faith will be developed eventually. God will come to you in the form of dreams or visions. So be sensitive to any dreams or visions, when you ask God for it earnestly.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I live a clean life!” Christians whisper “I feel lost, but now God found me and God forgives me.”
- Christians don’t speak with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they try to be strong because they need strength.
- Christians don’t brag about success, but they admit that they fail and they need God to clean the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect, but God still believes in them.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain. They have their share of headaches but they still call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than others. They are simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will begin. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49
Are we not like Barabbas who was justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost, like you.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool”. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to a Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading a short biography of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. He will defend you from attacks of the enemy when you ask Him.
