PRAYERS ANSWERED

PRAYER SURVEY

Newsweek’s own nationwide survey discovered:

  1. A stunning 87% of all Americans believe that prayer is answered by God.
  2. 82% asked for heath or success for a child or other family member when praying.
  3. 75% asked for strength to overcome personal weakness
  4. 85% don’t turn away from prayer even after prayers are not answered.

It has also been reported that all but a few medical doctors believe in God and 69% of doctors pray from time to time.

The real message is that prayer is truly of preeminent importance today.

WHY PRAY?

Why would God, who knows everything, ask us to pray when He already knows our needs before we ask?

Actually, prayer comes very naturally to us. There is even a yearning in our most innermost being that leads us to prayer. Where does this deep compulsion originate?

God designed us so that we might wish to know and be more like Him. We are “wired for God”. St. Augustine said,”You have made us for Yourself; and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” We have been created for a purpose: to know, love and serve our God. So God wills us to develop an intimate fellowship with Him.

So we need to spend time together in silence and in the most intimate kind of discourse. Our prayer should be a deep soul conversation with our Creator, which was designed from the beginning.

Prayer in a community is also part of God’s plan, “where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20 In fact, there is more power in this form of prayer.

MIRACLE HOUR

THE MIRACLE HOUR
THE MIRACLE HOUR

…Could you not keep watch for one hour?”  Mark 14:37

Do you have problems with commitment to prayer? How about short five minutes segments in an hour? You can also just pray at a few spokes of the wheel.

It’s wonderful to start the day with the Lord, praying in the early hours before work begins. Having a set time and place for prayer has positive benefits, whether it is morning, noon or night.

Consider the “Miracle Hour” as an intensely loving “power encounter” with your heavenly Father. The more you can personalize them, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you spontaneously in your own words, the more meaningful it will be.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2

Let us pray!

THE MIRACLE HOUR
THE MIRACLE HOUR
  1. PRAISE

People of praise are people of faith. Praise draws us into the abundant life in which God created us to live. When we praise God we acknowledge His supremacy in our lives. Praise draws us into His presence even when we don’t feel like it.

Let us praise God in all things. For the next five minutes just forget about yourself and concentrate on God. Between each segment you may wish to say the Our Father prayer or pray in the charismatic gift of tongues.

BLESSED ARE THE POOR

BLESSED ARE THE POOR
THE BEATITUDES OF JESUS ARE REVOLUTIONARY.

The Beatitudes present a model of happiness contrary to what is usually communicated by the media and by the prevailing wisdom.

Today, what is glorified is success at any cost, affluence, the arrogance of power and self-affirmation at the expense of others. According to the logic of this world, those whom Jesus proclaimed blessed are regarded as useless, “losers”.

BLESSED POOR

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”                                                                                                                             Matthew 5:3

BLESSED ARE THE POOR -WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

It seems confusing because we ought to strive to be rich in spirit, not poor.

At a time when so many people are suffering as a result of the financial crisis, it might seem strange to link poverty and happiness.  How can we consider poverty a blessing? Does Jesus teach material poverty? Jesus is here talking about the condition of the spirit, not of the wallet.

Jesus loves everybody. Jesus wants to bless everyone, so why would he single out the economically poor for some kind of special blessing?

Economic poverty and sociological poverty often overlap, but not always.  There are the “sociological poor”; these include people who are marginalized and oppressed, rendered vulnerable and given over to all sorts of hardships for reasons not of their own making. They are deprived the basic dignities which should be accorded all human beings–and it their spirits are often crushed, they are often broken-hearted, as a result.

It goes far beyond merely keeping the commandments: trying to gain eternal life. It’s undergoing a profound change in all of our attitudes, our value system, to really come to know Jesus, to hear His message, to imitate His way of life, to follow Him. That will require profound conversion.

BLESSED ARE THE POOR

Jesus is talking more about an attitude, a way of knowing one’s need for God, which is a disposition of the heart and not simply economic deprivation.

“When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind. Blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”                                                                                        Luke 14:13-14

We understand that material goods are not a be-all and end-all for anyone, or should not be. We understand that we need enough to have a full human life, but we don’t need excess. We understand that God made the world for all and not just for a few, and so we need to find ways to share the goods of the earth and the goods of our world so everyone has a chance for a full human life.

The poor in spirit are those who recognize their total spiritual destitution and their complete dependence on God. So that the logic of being more will prevail over that of having more!

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”.                                                                                                                              Matthew 5:3

DOES “POOR IN SPIRIT” MEANS TO BE HUMBLE?

PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE?

WHERE DOES IT SAY PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE?

purgatory bible

Scriptures does imply the existence of the doctrine of purgatory. It implies the need for purification, after death and before attaining Heaven: – “nothing unclean shall enter heaven.” Revelation 21:27

“That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly.                                                                                                    Luke 12: 47,48

A STATE AFTER DEATH OF SUFFERING AND FORGIVENESS

Jesus teaches us, “Come to terms with your opponent or you will be handed over to the judge and thrown into prison. You will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”                                                                                                                                                       Matthew 5:26,18:34; Luke 12:58-59

HEAVEN’S MUD ROOM

We try to be holy, but surely nobody sincerely believes they are holy by God’s standards. We may need more holiness before we meet. “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”                   Hebrews 12: 14

Think of purgatory as a foyer or porch in front of the front door. You still have filthy boots and your “unholiness” must be cleansed before you enter the house.

IN THE NEXT

Jesus says,“And anyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but no one who speaks against the Holy Spirit will be forgiven either in this world or in the next. Matthew. 12:32

Jesus thus clearly provides that there is forgiveness after death. The phrase “in the next” (from the Greek “en to mellonti”) generally refers to the afterlife

Forgiveness is not necessary in heaven, and there is no forgiveness in hell. This proves that there is another state after death, and the Church for 2,000 years has called this state purgatory.

COUNTER ARGUMENT

Many Protestants argue that, because Jesus sent the good thief right to heaven, there can be no purgatory. There are several rebuttals.

First, when Jesus uses the word paradise,” He did not mean heaven. Paradise, from the Hebrew “sheol,” meant the realm of the righteous dead. This was the place of the dead who were destined for heaven, but who were captive until the Lord’s resurrection.

Second, since there was no punctuation in the original manuscript, Jesus’ statement “I say to you today you will be with me in paradise” does not mean there was a comma after the first word “you.” This means Jesus could have said, “I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise”                                                                                         Luke 23:43

Protestants have rejected Maccabees in the Catholic Bible: the reason for the rejection may have been the inference of purgatory. “It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.”                             2 Maccabees 12: 46

HOLY SPIRIT TRANSFORMATION

“Live by following the Holy Spirit.”                               Galatians 5:16

“The true children of God are those who let God’s Holy Spirit lead them.”                                                                                    Romans 8:14

HOLY SPIRIT TRANSFORMATION

To simplify this, the Holy Spirit is the Presence of God in our lives, carrying on the work of Jesus. The Holy Spirit grants us all the fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23.(“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control”). If the disciple teaches, it is the Holy Spirit that teaches the disciple. Luke 12:12 (“For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”)

If the listener is convicted, it is because the Holy Spirit has penetrated. John 16:10 (“Concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no longer”) If the listener is converted, it by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:11 (“He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”)

If the new believer matures, it is because the Holy Spirit makes him or her more competent. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.”                                            1 Corinthians 6:19

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”                                                                                                                                                          John 14:16-17

How have you seen the Holy Spirit at work in your own life?

HOW DO YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?

HOLY SPIRIT TRANSFORMATION

“As I (Peter)began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.  Acts 11:15,16  There are four different ways, which can be used by the minister of baptism:

  1. Laying on of hands: “they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. ” Acts19: 2-6
  2. Praying : “When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ”                            Acts 8:15,16
  3. Speaking: “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.”                   Acts 10:44-45
  4. Breathing: Jesus commanded that the disciples receive the Holy Spirit, “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”                                            John 20:22

The most important part of the rite is that the person being baptized in the Holy Spirit be in acceptance:  ” I receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.”

HAVING TWO MINDS

TWO MINDS

When Neymar’s Brazil won gold in its home Olympics in 2016, Neymar took the podium to receive his gold medal with a headband reading “100% Jesus.” Yet this ostensible display of devotion caused controversy, given the star player’s out of wedlock son and public love life. Fame and fortune are always dangerous to the Christian.

TWO MINDSThere are those who have two minds because one is wavering or inconstant. This person has no settled principles. He is controlled by passion; he may be influenced by popular feeling. In other words, he is inclined to one opinion or course of conduct, and now to another. “A man is of two minds, unstable in all his ways.”      James 1:8

TWO MINDS

David of the Old Testament commanded that Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, be put at the front lines of the battle and that the troops be pulled back from him. Just as David had hoped, Uriah was killed. David then took Bathsheba as his wife.

David’s behavior presents a perfect example of a double-minded man. Even though he had God’s Life in his heart and had been “a man after God’s own heart,” he nevertheless chose to go with the tide and follow the lusts of his own flesh over what God was prompting him to do.

TWO MINDS

A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. Are you unstable about your relationship to Christ?

If you lack wisdom, you must ask for it.

AMERICA'S LAST CALL
AMERICA’S LAST CALL

I saw a horseman rode up to me and handed me a scroll. In big black bold print were the words,” WAR AND DESTRUCTION”. “America is receiving her last call. Some nations already have received their last call and never will receive another.”

I saw the skyscrapers were burned-out hulls. Portions of the city lay in ruins. There would be many such cities destroyed.America's last call

Jesus spoke,” All the gifts of the Spirit will be in operation in the Church in these last days and the Church will do greater things than even the Early Church did… We are now entering into the era of the miraculous… I am gathering My own together and am preparing them, for the time is short.” “The time that is left is comparable to the last seven days of Noah’s time.”

WHAT IS A BLESSING?

WHAT IS A BLESSING?When we invoke God’s blessing, we implore His divine beneficence, trusting that He will respond to our needs. He will cause situations to come together in your favor, no matter what others try to do.

The Lord said to Moses, “Bless the people of Israel with this special Blessing. Whenever (you) bless the people … in My name, I Myself will bless them.”                                                                            Numbers 6:23, 27

POWER OF PRAYER

My Lord, I love you:  say it many times. God loves to hear it. Say it a thousand times a day and every morning when you rest in the Lord.  How wonderful it is for God to hear you call Him, ‘Father’.”

Vassula, since you know now how much you depend on Me your God. Will you be praying more? I love your simple words, say to Me,

I love You Lord,

I breathe for You, I smile for You,

I hope in You, I believe in You,

You are my joy, my bounce, my peace. ”                      March 8, 1988

Understand how I work, but feel Me, let Me hear you talk to Me, remember Me; never will I let anything come before Me; I am First; polishing your soul will make it shine like gold … but have Me in mind always.”                                                                                         July 18, 1987

God would want you to concentrate more on Him. Conversing with God is Prayer.  One can make this more of a reality by speaking in terms of weandus, to show that one is united to God daily: “we are one.”  When you have a coffee, you have coffee for two. It is always “we” or “us” who are having coffee.

“Remember My Presence; do you know how much I desire this meditation upon My Presence? My Presence is also a very important Mystery that most of you seem to forget; meditate on My Presence; children, whom I love with an everlasting love, please Me by remembering My actual Presence; train yourselves by using these words, we, us, you and I, I and you, us; include Me in your activities, in your discussions and in your thoughts; respect My Presence, never forgetting that I am the Holy One; by remembering Me, you will sin less knowing and remembering that I Am with you.”  October 24, 1988
