PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE?

WHERE DOES IT SAY PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE?

purgatory bible

Scriptures does imply the existence of the doctrine of purgatory. It implies the need for purification, after death and before attaining Heaven: – “nothing unclean shall enter heaven.” Revelation 21:27

“That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly.                                                                                                    Luke 12: 47,48

A STATE AFTER DEATH OF SUFFERING AND FORGIVENESS

Jesus teaches us, “Come to terms with your opponent or you will be handed over to the judge and thrown into prison. You will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”                                                                                                                                                       Matthew 5:26,18:34; Luke 12:58-59

HEAVEN’S MUD ROOM

We try to be holy, but surely nobody sincerely believes they are holy by God’s standards. We may need more holiness before we meet. “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”                   Hebrews 12: 14

Think of purgatory as a foyer or porch in front of the front door. You still have filthy boots and your “unholiness” must be cleansed before you enter the house.

IN THE NEXT

Jesus says,“And anyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but no one who speaks against the Holy Spirit will be forgiven either in this world or in the next. Matthew. 12:32

Jesus thus clearly provides that there is forgiveness after death. The phrase “in the next” (from the Greek “en to mellonti”) generally refers to the afterlife

Forgiveness is not necessary in heaven, and there is no forgiveness in hell. This proves that there is another state after death, and the Church for 2,000 years has called this state purgatory.

COUNTER ARGUMENT

Many Protestants argue that, because Jesus sent the good thief right to heaven, there can be no purgatory. There are several rebuttals.

First, when Jesus uses the word paradise,” He did not mean heaven. Paradise, from the Hebrew “sheol,” meant the realm of the righteous dead. This was the place of the dead who were destined for heaven, but who were captive until the Lord’s resurrection.

Second, since there was no punctuation in the original manuscript, Jesus’ statement “I say to you today you will be with me in paradise” does not mean there was a comma after the first word “you.” This means Jesus could have said, “I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise”                                                                                         Luke 23:43

Protestants have rejected Maccabees in the Catholic Bible: the reason for the rejection may have been the inference of purgatory. “It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.”                             2 Maccabees 12: 46

TRUTH ABOUT PURGATORY

Purgatory, far from being a “Catholic invention” as most Protestants assume, was believed from the very beginning by Christians.

KEEPING HEAVEN PURE

Those who don’t want their past to be known will experience isolation, until they grow out of their fear and are able to trust. Would their isolation be their purgatory? Purgatory will be our choice not to trust and love, not to open ourselves to the loving, accepting gaze of others. Finally when this stage is passed, those in purgatory will reach the wholeness which God means us to have.

TRUTH ABOUT PURGATORY

“If any person’s work which he has built [on this foundation, that is, any outcome of his effort] remains [and survives this test], he will receive a reward.  But if any person’s work is burned up [by the test], he will suffer the loss [of his reward]; yet he himself will be saved, but only as [one who has barely escaped] through fire.”
                                                                                                   1 Corinthians. 3:14,15

This purification purges away all the dross that clings to the soul,
things that Paul describes metaphorically as flammable materials
such as “wood, hay, and straw.” These things are burned away in this
judgment by God. Conversely, that man’s good works — which Paul compares with “gold, silver, and precious stones” — are refined and retained.

Since there are only two ultimate destinies possible for all human
beings, heaven or hell, the issue of purgatory must be understood as
simply a part of the process for some souls who are destined for
heaven. Continue reading TRUTH ABOUT PURGATORY

IS THERE A PURGATORY?

Purgatory, far from being a “Catholic invention” as most Protestants assume, was believed from the very beginning by Christians.

“According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw — each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire”.                                                                                                                                                        1 Corinthians 3:10-15

This purification purges away all the dross that clings to the soul, things that St. Paul describes metaphorically as flammable materials such as “wood, hay, and straw.” These things are burned away in this judgment by God. Conversely, that man’s good works — which St. Paul compares with “gold, silver, and precious stones” — are refined and retained.

Since there are only two ultimate destinies possible for all human beings, heaven or hell, the issue of purgatory must be understood as simply a part of the process for some souls who are destined for heaven.

In Matthew 12:32, the Lord mentions a sin that cannot be forgiven even “in the world to come,” implying that there are some sins that will be forgiven after death.

Similarly, in the teaching about the Unforgiving Servant, Christ concludes with the fact that the wicked servant, even after his debt was canceled by the king, was thrown into prison for maltreating his fellow servant and told, “You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt”.                                                                                                Matthew 18:32-34

Echoing this theme, St. Peter speaks about the souls who are “in prison,” awaiting their entrance into heaven  1 Peter 3:18-19, 4:6.

VOODOO SPIRITUALITY

VOODOOISMvoodooism spiritual beings loa

Vodou is primarily practiced in Haiti, New Orleans, and other locations within the Caribbean. There is great variation within Voodoo beliefs and practices. Many Vodou practitioners also consider themselves Catholics. Voodooism involves spiritual beings.

voodooism spiritual beings

As well as being the priest or priestess, the houngan acts as confessor, confidential and financial advisor, prophet and healer for the people in the community. But the houngan is more a folk healer with a considerable knowledge of herbal remedies who treats minor illnesses. While selling love potions and protective charms, including small bags to be worn for protection or for good luck, may be a lucrative side business for a priest or priestess, the primary occupation is still as a spiritual leader of his community. Voodooists especially places value on the strength of community for support.

Loa or Spiritual Beings

The spirits of death, The Guédé are really an enormous group of the loa who are the spirits of formerly living people. He is the one who controls the passage between life and death. In ritual, he is often offered black goats or chickens. The most frequently performed ritual in Voodoo is one that invokes a particular loa (supernatural beings) to offer food to him and seek his presence on earth.

The most important components of a human body, however, are the two parts of the soul, the ti-bon-ange (‘little good angel’) and the gros-bon-ange (‘great good angel’). The gros-bon-age keeps the body alive, and after death, it returns to the reservoir of energy in the cosmos. Without the gros-bon-ange a person loses his/ her life-force. The ti-bon-ange makes up the half of a person’s soul and it is the source of a person’s personality. Furthermore, it is responsible for determining an individual’s characteristics, personality and will.

In Voodoo belief, death is not seen as the end of life, but as a change. The soul – the gros-bon-ange and the ti-bon-ange – endures after death in a different form. The gros-bon-ange returns to the high solar regions where it joins the other loa (supernatural being) and is itself transformed into a loa. Approximately a year after the death, the houngan (priest) performs a ritual, to ensure that the ti-bon-ange is put to rest. This ritual is very important because otherwise the ti-bon-ange may wonder the earth and bring illness and disaster on others.

A Distinctive Human Soul

A human person is a UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL BEING with a spiritual soul and a material body. Human beings alone are created in the image and likeness of God; and therefore, possess rational and spiritual souls: a human person is a body/soul composite.

BUDDHISM NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE

BUDDHISM & NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE

near death experience

Are there NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE in which a Buddhist encountered Buddha? YES!

Dr. Atwater is an international authority on near- death states as well as a near-death experiencer. She is one of the original researchers in the field of near-death studies, having begun her work in 1978. More than 3,000 people are registered at her discussion form site, and we understand that they have one of the largest databases on NDEs in the world.

Where arguments arise amongst various people and groups is over the interpretation of that light and any form it make take, and how to regard it.

Scientists say it is endorphins; Muslims say it is fantasy; religious fundamentalists of any “stripe” say it is Satan (Lucifer). People of faith say it is either of God or of emissaries from God.

WHAT ARE NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES?

Numerous experiencers see figures and forms in the light. These are variously described as angels, guides, guardians, light beings (beings made entirely of light), religious figures, high holy ones and often kids call them “the people.”

The vast majority of individuals remain consistent overtime with what they say and do not distort original narratives. That means accusations of New Age jargon, religious prophesy, Christian visions, Western indulgences, or the like, are untrue.

THREE KINDS OF VERITABLE EVIDENCE

There can be mixups as in the case of Jeanie Dicus. She was a Jewess yet she was visited by Jesus. This so surprised her and confounded her that she promptly challenged Jesus, and continued to do so throughout her entire near-death episode, saying: “I don’t believe in You. Why are You here?”

Atheists report the same type of visitations as do religious folk. In other words, you don’t have to believe in anything to be surprised at what you find when you nearly die.

Where this situation gets fascinating is when you invite experiencers to draw the high holy one/religious figure who visited them. To a person, you cannot tell the difference between a drawing from someone in the State of Wyoming from one done in Thailand or Israel or Russia or China or Nigeria. Patterning holds; differences in patterning only concern a few details of dress and behavior. They certainly don’t look like Buddha.

Christianity and Hinduism Differences

CHRISTIANITY AND HINDUISM

Hinduism Christianity

There are two basic kinds of religions in the world: Eastern and Western. The main differences between Hinduism and Christianity are typical of the differences between Eastern and Western religions in general. Here are some examples:

  1. Hinduism is pantheistic, not theistic. The Christian doctrine that God created the world out of nothing doesn’t even arise. In Hinduism, the world is part of God (pantheism).
  2. Hinduism believes that there is no absolute morality, no divine law, so no divine will discriminate good and evil. In Hinduism’s end is to purify the soul from desires so that it can attain mystical consciousness. While Christians have two innate senses: the religious sense to worship, and the moral sense of conscience.
  3. Eastern religions come from private mystical experiences; Western religions come from public revelations recorded in the Book and summarized in a creed. In the East, human experience validates the Scriptures.
  4. Eastern religions are esoteric, understandable only from within by the few who share the experience. In Hinduism there are many levels of truth: polytheism, sacred cows and reincarnation for the masses; monotheism (or monism) for the mystics, who declare the individual soul one with Brahman (God) and beyond reincarnation (“Brahman is the only reincarnator”). While western religions are exoteric, public, democratic, open to all.
  5. Individuality is illusion according to Eastern mysticism: we are not distinct from God or each other. Hinduism tells you you are your neighbors. There is no separate ego. All is one. Christianity tells you to love your neighbors.
  6. Since individuality is illusion, so is free will. If free will is illusion, so is sin. And if sin is illusion, so is hell. Perhaps the strongest attraction of Eastern religions is in their denial of sin, guilt and hell. In Hindu philosophy, there is no way you can absolve sin once it is done. This is the basic law of “Karma”. If you do good, so will you reap. If you do paap (or sin) you will see the repercussions in your next life. It is an easy way out to “accept Jesus and absolve yourself of sins”.Thus the two essential points of Christianity — sin and salvation — are both missing in the East. If there is no sin, no salvation is needed, only enlightenment. If I am part of God. I can never really be alienated from God by sin.
  7. Body, matter, history and time itself are not real, according to Hinduism. Mystical experience lifts the spirit out of time and the world. Eastern religions are not dramatic. In contrast, Christianity are dramatically news and events in time
  8. The ultimate Hindu ideal is not sanctity but mysticism. Mysticism is fundamentally a matter of intellect, intuition, consciousness.— not God’s will, loving God and neighbor.

HINDUISM CHRISTIANITY DIFFERENCES

When C.S. Lewis was converted from atheism, he observed that religions are like soups. Only Hinduism and Christianity are both “thin” (philosophical) and “thick” (sacramental and mysterious). But Hinduism is really two religions: “thick” for the masses, “thin” for the sages. Only Christianity is both. Continue reading Christianity and Hinduism Differences

VISIONS OF HELL

 HELL  REVEALED

Vassula hears, interiorly

She hears a voice first, then, when she has to write down what she has heard, her writing changes. This describes her visit:

heaven true life in God

I entered the tunnel and was engulfed within a violently spinning vortex heading toward a yellowish dint of light. I stood up and looked around. I saw a house on a hill, smelled horrible odors, and heard strange sounds. People came from the house and neared me with joyous shouts of welcome. Where was I? Heaven? Hell? At first, I thought I was in a paradise but the sounds and smells were all wrong.

hell purgatory

Something was not right about these people either. For some reason they began appearing translucent. With this, I began to see them for what they really were – strange foul creatures emitting the illusions of people. Upon seeing this, two words erupted from my mouth like the staccato of a machine gun: Jesus Christ. I said these two words non-stop till I left this place. I was in a state of stark terror as the reality of where I was hit home.

One creature began to speak to me in a heavy unknown accent and told me to follow it:  I followed the rank creature and immediately emerged on the other side of the horizon. A wide, dirty, flat, barren expanse of land gently sloped downward, betraying an endless circular spiral of misery. On the left side of the coiled grade were rows and rows of cubes with more cubes columned high, forming a wall of ten-by-ten foot partitions mirroring the events displayed inside.

Each cube was stacked six high, marring each ascending and descending spiraling level’s wall like a dirty mirror. The wide expanse was a road. Strange entities were traveling on it. This wide dusty road ended at a circular void, highlighting the center of this hellish domain.

HELL REALITY

The cubes appeared encompassed by thin smoke-tinted, gelatin-like walls. Each cube appeared to be about ten feet by ten feet square. You could see into these but not out of them. Within every chamber resided an individual person, trapped, unable to escape as I had.

Looking through the torn wall of the cube I had just stepped out of, the house and tree within were hauntingly calling my name to return. Perplexed, I stepped back for another glance at this cubicle. I was surprised that it was so small. Inside it had seemed so large!

Turning, I saw the lizard-like entity a few feet from me, reaching its ugly, greenish-yellow arms as if to drag me away to a desperate fate. Boxer style, I blocked the attempt. This fiend stepped back, grinning ear to ear.

What I saw is best described in the Holy Bible in Ezekiel describes hell or purgatory as a circular burial pit where the dead are buried within the walls of a pit in accordance to his or her deeds. Each individual is placed in a chamber described symbolically as a bed chamber where the resident restlessly rest experiencing recompense for his or her deeds performed on earth.

“Elam is there and all her hordes around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the lower parts of the earth, who instilled their terror in the land of the living and bore their disgrace with those who went down to the pit.  They have made a bed for her among the slain with all her hordes. Her graves are around it.”                                                    Ezekiel 32: 24,25

Inside each cube, I spied individual people in various stages of boredom, anguishes, and hideous various torments. Ghoulish entities were inside these cubes giving the illusions of people, places, and things to each trapped soul enacting the scenes from each person’s life. I also traveled between these cubes to more cubes that lay behind as the journey continued.

The creature before me began speaking to me again with such foul language and curses that I cannot record what it really said for you. I began understanding its speech and could sort out the general theme it was speaking from its cursing. It then began showing me around this domain.

Out from the cubicle wall’s was a large dusty plain or road. Both ugly and beautiful beings roamed in lose packs on this plain. During the duration of my stay, many of these entities attempted to engage me in conversation. I was too terrified to respond but only spoke out the words, “Jesus Christ” non-stop.

I was taken on a hellish tour of this place by the ghastly creature in front of me. We descended to the lower levels of the spiral road as well as observed what was happening inside the cubes to each lost soul we passed. This hellish journey seemed to last forever. I wanted to wake up so bad, but could not.

Each trapped soul reaped in full measure whatever they had sown during their lives. Many entered this pit and into the cubes by means of spinning vortexes. I also noticed another entrance. All those people trapped resided totally alone and were not aware of each other. The only thing each was aware of, were the creatures residing with them and the scenes enacted within their own personal square nightmarish abode. It was truly a place of doom, despair, and unending nightmares.

I would say that each person trapped there felt a peculiar separation from God in the form of feeling banished forever from the loving nature of God and true life. Each knew fully that they deserved his or her fate because each chose to walk away from God and now resided in place without God as they desired during his or hers life lived on earth. God, in his great justice, fairness, and unfathomable love gave them what they desired: a place without God and where each was receiving the fruits of his or her own doings.

I felt greatest fear when the beastly guide tried to entrap me inside a unique cubicle. It is here, I was rescued while screaming out the words, Jesus Christ. I felt someone coming for me and arrive behind me and then lift me up.

I wept as the Redeemer carried me back to the cube I arrived in and then through the vortex back to the rock. He set my feet upon that Huge Rock where I was granted a glimpse of Heaven and was told that none can enter Heaven unless they come through the gate which was the robe clad Personage standing before me.

I was told it was time to leave and return. I floated back the way I had come. I was soon in my room above my body looking at the scene below. I glided back into my body and awoke with a start. I could not regain my breath until someone began hitting me on my back. I was rushed to a Hospital for further treatment and recovery. The duration of my near-death experience (NDE), was about four hours.

My experience has left me a deep appreciation for the work of Jesus Christ and His salvation. I became a Born Again Christian because of it. I have renewed understanding of God’s profound love, justice, righteousness, grace, and mercy. I learned that Jesus came to save that which is lost.

HELL IS A SECOND DEATH.
