LONG TERM KETO DIET?

LONG TERM KETO DIET
SHOULD PEOPLE FOLLOW THE KETO DIET LONG TERM?

The ketogenic diet was originally introduced in 1920. Studies suggest that there are definite short-term benefits of a high-fat ketogenic diet. Sugar and highly refined foods are killing us! It is estimated that in the United States alone approximately 300,000 people die each year from obesity-related diseases.

It has been found that a sugary diet is the root cause of various chronic diseases of the body and it accelerates aging. This is cause be a reduction of the amount of antioxidants in the body. Sugar consumption is positively associated with cancer:  tumors are known to be enormous sugar absorbers.

There are many already healthy individuals adhering to it who may find problems in the long run from a less varied diet. Once your condition has improved, it won’t hurt to widen your menu. When cycling in and out of this diet you can still eat healthy – no processed foods but sweet potatoes, lentils etc are okay.

We know how controversial this issue can be. In a 2004 study, 83 obese patients confirmed that it is also safe to use a ketogenic diet for a longer period of time. The study included the additional micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) which were given to each subject in the form of one capsule per day.

This is important to know about long term advantages because of all the health issues that can be addressed. A link between low fat diets and osteoporosis has been suggested. Very low fat diets are considered to be low in calcium content. Women on low fat diets excrete most of the calcium they consume; therefore, they are more prone to osteoporosis. However, a high fat diet can rectify this situation.

LONG TERM KETO DIET

People are going Keto because they feel better on it. Keto is useful for treating a disease, like epilepsy (children go from 4 seizures a week to 1 a month on a keto diet) or obesity and reversal of diabetes type 2 and a clear complexion without acne! It has been further shown that a ketogenic diet could act as a mood stabilizer in bipolar illness.

KETOGENIC DIET FOR DEPRESSION

KETOGENETIC DIET FOR DEPRESSION

It’s no secret that most people are overworked, under-rested, and living on a poor diet. It’s also no coincidence that the modern advice to eat a diet high in carbohydrates, low in fat, and with constant snacking or small meals throughout the day has coincided with a rise in diabetes, obesity, and mental issues like anxiety and depression.

Depression is no joke. It’s serious. It affects approximately 3 million people every year, just in the US. Approximately 1 in 5 in the US and Canada will experience a mental health illness in any given year , and almost 7% of the population will have experienced a major depressive episode in the past year.

Starting a ketogenic diet, removing high-carb refined foods, losing weight, and eating whole foods is bound to help with mood and make you happier. This alone could have benefits for those with depression. They have studied rats on a ketogenic diet displayed less behavioural despair— meaning they exhibited less hopelessness, and they were more active than the control group not eating keto.

The general consensus is that the brain functions more cleanly and efficiently when a significant portion of its energy comes from ketones, calming overactive and overly-reactive brain cells.

It should be noted that when the body is initially adapting to burning fat instead of glucose, a period known as the “keto flu,” one might feel worse at first. So it may take several weeks or longer for most people to adapt to a low carb diet.

During that transition time when you are first reducing your carb intake, your body has to make new enzymes to burn fat instead of glucose. While it’s busy making these enzymes, and you are eating less carbs, your brain chemistry is changing, and it’s possible to experience lower mood during this time, but it passes once the body adjusts and is able to level out. As your body adapts and learns how to burn fat instead of sugar, mood levels out, and the depressive feelings lift.

KETOGENIC DIET FOR DISEASES

KETOGENIC DIET FOR DISEASESRANGE OF DISEASES

While the keto diet is touted for its fat-burning effects, there’s growing evidence that it can help a range of diseases, including migraine headaches, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy Autism and Depression.

KETOGENIC DIET FOR DISEASES

These also include psychiatric disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and attention or memory problems.

Doctors know that fasting reduced the amount of seizures, and eating mainly fat and little else mimicked the effect of starvation in the brain: each molecule of ketone (good fat) bodies produces more energy than glucose, but less oxidative stress, so the brain and the muscles work more efficiently. This effect of ketone bodies as energetic boosters is very important in migraine patients, or migraineurs, because they have an energetic deficit in the brain.

Ketone bodies also have an anti-inflammatory effect. The ketone bodies dampen the neural inflammation that’s both common in epilepsy and migraines and modulate the cortical excitability.

It is a sustainable way to eat a lot of plant based foods, healthy nourishing, brain healthy fats, and it has been shown to have several anti-aging components to it.

It is often referred to as a fasting mimicking diet, because it has the same benefits as fasting in terms of weight loss, insulin sensitivity, neurotrophic and neurogenic effects on the brain, improved cholesterol markers and insulin resistance.

A 16-week study also found a 16% reduction in blood sugar levels. Additionally, 7 of the 21 participants were able to completely stop all diabetic medication.

KETO DIET SUCCESS STORIES

In 2009, a 12-month case study details the experience of a 70-year old overweight woman with chronic schizophrenia who was prescribed a diet limited to 20 grams of carbohydrate per day. She noted significant improvement in severe symptoms beginning only eight days after starting the diet. She reported complete resolution of auditory and visual hallucinations–with which she’d suffered since age seven.

A 20-month case study of a man with Alzheimer’s disease whose cognition and function significantly improved with the use of ketone supplements

A high carb diet has resulted in severe depressive episodes that come in cycles, and worsen with the amount of carbohydrate I eat. Conversely, when I stick to a low carb diet, my mood evens out, I feel a lot better, and I’m not dependent on the next sugar fix to feel good. For me, low carb eating is a great depression treatment.

THE HOLY GRAIL

While the keto diet is touted for its fat-burning effects, there’s growing evidence that it can help a range of diseases, including migraine headaches and depression.

“Being in a mild state of ketosis is really the place to be,” neurologist David Perlmutter says in the film, adding that fat powers the brain better than carbs do.

A top neurosurgeon who specializes in brain tumors at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, “I really think the ketogenic diet is going to be…part of that magic bullet, the holy grail of treating people with this disease.” Continue reading KETOGENIC DIET FOR DISEASES

PRIDE AND HUMILITY

SPIRITUALLY ARROGANT

The religious leadership 2000 years ago clamored to be emulated. Their desire was to be honored and revered. They were spiritually arrogant and purposely placed themselves on a pedestal to receive everyone’s praise.

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”      Isaiah 57:15

“A humble person has no trouble giving another a higher place than himself. He also acknowledges the greatness of God and how little he knows. A humble person is gentle and never arrogant. He does not show off to make an impression but remains in the truth. He does not rely on his own words but on the Word of God. A humble person cares for others and wishes all to advance. He is quick to pardon and never holds grudges.

He knows that he is weak and in need of God’s strength at every moment. He has no problem to ask another for help and he is always asking the Father for His grace.

“Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” MATTHEW 16:22

See how many times the disciples tried to correct the Lord. See how many times they argued with the Lord. See how many times their thoughts contradicted the Master. See how many times they urged Him to take action. And the Lord, ever patient, would correct them.

In every case, we see that He is the Lord, and they are the disciples. The roles must never be confused. He is the Master, and we are His servants. We do not command Him, but He commands us. We do not lead Him, but He leads us. He was not created for us, but we were created for Him. He does not serve us according to our pleasure, but we serve Him according to His pleasure. So we must be adjusted to Him, and not the other way around. The Lord will never apologize to us and say, “I’m sorry, I was wrong. We’ll do it your way.” How laughable! How absurd! But we often live as if we expect Him to do that very thing. We have not humbled ourselves.

Marvin Pressman

The above messages came to Father Melvin Doucette.

In the Sermon on the Mount, many things that have earthly value are overturned, showing that in Your Kingdom things stand on different, purer standards.

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, [poor in spirit] for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”    Matthew 5:3

PRIDE: TO ACQUIRE POWER

TO ACQUIRE POWER

Do you find yourself continually striving to acquire power? When you give advice, do you want to know whether it is being followed or not? There is a pattern: when you offer help, you expect to be thanked; when you give money, you expect it to be spent your way; when you do something good, you want to be remembered. You are concerned that you not be forgotten and that somehow you will live on in the thoughts and deeds of others.

PRIDE: TO ACQUIRE POWER

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you”                                                                                                                                                    James 4:10                                                                                                                                               There is blessing found in humility. When we hold on to pride, there are consequences that result.

DELIVERANCE of DEPRESSING FEELINGS ASSURED

 Explaining Depressing Feelings

DEPRESSING FEELINGS
DEPRESSING FEELINGS

How do you explain depressing feelings? Have you ever felt that the world is full of deception – nothing and no one should be trusted. Such notions, arises from disillusionment, distrust of one’s fellow beings, unhappiness and eventually, despair. Life has suddenly and devastatingly become devoid of meaning; we arrive at a time of life-threatening crisis. Meaning and purpose for life cannot be found. Where and to whom can one turn? Who can one trust to find the right answers?
We seem to be ‘looking through a glass darkly’ — looking at what was going on around us as if we were a detached observer – being there and involved but also feeling that somehow we weren’t really present.
We cry more than any normal person should; we don’t care to eat, cook, or clean, we don’t care to see our friends. We can’t focus at work, or carry out our daily responsibilities at home. When we step back and think about it, we wonder, is there a point to being alive?
It’s a frightening thought when we realize we’ve just admitted to ourselves there could be no reason to be here. There is a difference between being sad, and being sad for no reason. A sadness deep in your bones that does not want to go away after time and effort. It’s not something anyone wants to readily admit.

We practice making lists on why our life is something to be envious of, but that doesn’t help. It makes one hate oneself more for being sad when one has it so good. Then you say to yourself that you are a failure…and it spirals from there. It’s awful. It’s exhausting. It’s black.

People brush you off by telling me you that you need, “exercise and a combination of certain vitamins,” or, “think of the starving children in Africa without clean water to drink.”

So you realize that you need help. You  struggle with showing any signs of weakness, but asking for help is not something you can easily do. You are not sure there is anything any one person could do or say; you suppose this is a dark valley ; you have to go at it alone. You can only hope you make it out the other side.

You are afraid that you will spend your  life chasing happiness. But at times, you wonder if you are just running.

GAMBLING ADDICTION DELIVERANCE

HIGH STAKES OF GAMBLING ADDICTION

Psychologist Roger Barrett, Ph.D., of Canton, Ohio, says that negative feelings are like a cork that needs to be popped in order to begin letting out the good feelings. In time, anger becomes forgiveness; despair leads to declaration. In other words, gambling addiction is nothing more than a symptom that goes deeper.

GAMBLING ADDICTIONAddicted gamblers have lived with incredible emotional pain for years. Most come from troubled homes. “Easily 80 percent of our gamblers come from alcoholic or addicted homes where their parents were poor role models. Therefore, the child never learns control.

Gamblers Anonymous estimates that there are at least 10 million problem gamblers in the United States. By extrapolation, Canada suffers from 1.2 million problem gamblers.

There are huge costs to the family: financial losses in addition to profound wounds of the heart and soul. For example, 11 percent of wives of gamblers attempt suicide and 25 percent of children of compulsive gamblers have behavior and/or adjustment problems. Many go on to become addicted to gambling.

As time goes on, the gambler is no longer betting just in order to win, but instead to recover growing losses. Gamblers refer to this as “chasing,” the frantic pursuit of lost money. And in order to recoup, they take bigger and bigger chances leading to more and more losses.

The compulsion has already sent a deep wedge between the gambler and God. Now the addiction drives the gambler to do things he or she never would have considered before. These could include theft, embezzlement, prostitution, drug trafficking and other activities. Despair and depression increase, leading to confusion and panic that instigate poorly calculated bets, causing even more losses.

Some wind up in mental institutions or jails or living on the street. One out of every five players attempts suicide. Many gamblers, however, reach recovery.
