“…Could you not keep watch for one hour?” Mark 14:37
Do you have problems with commitment to prayer? How about short five minutes segments in an hour? You can also just pray at a few spokes of the wheel.
It’s wonderful to start the day with the Lord, praying in the early hours before work begins. Having a set time and place for prayer has positive benefits, whether it is morning, noon or night.
Consider the “Miracle Hour” as an intensely loving “power encounter” with your heavenly Father. The more you can personalize them, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you spontaneously in your own words, the more meaningful it will be.
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?Psalm 42:1-2
Let us pray!
People of praise are people of faith. Praise draws us into the abundant life in which God created us to live. When we praise God we acknowledge His supremacy in our lives. Praise draws us into His presence even when we don’t feel like it.
Let us praise God in all things. For the next five minutes just forget about yourself and concentrate on God. Between each segment you may wish to say the Our Father prayer or pray in the charismatic gift of tongues.
Most people don’t know that God want to heal them:
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. ” 3 John 1:2
Healing is often overlooked today.
Our culture has little place for such experiences. People do not understand the concept of a “divine breakthrough” into our little world. “
If a person does not appear to be healed after prayers, one should not be anxious; the healing minister will have followed exactly what God requires. The healing is done in heaven: these are only delayed healing. God wants us to depend on Him– not a technique.
Man’s most basic need is to know that he is loved. Let us contemplate the important part love has in the healing process. At Lourdes, some people are healed and others are not, but all leave with a sense of peace, convinced that the Holy Spirit has touched them and that God loves them.
When you go to a doctor for healing, you don’t try to justify our asking for help, e.g. Help me because I can be a better parent, a better worker, a better spouse. Yet this is what many people do when they pray for healing from God: they even try to bargain with God:I will do this if only you heal me. These people have a fearful relationship with God.
The real truth is that God is Love and He wants to see you healedwithout your justification. Healing is an ordinary, not an extraordinary sign of God’s mercy and compassion. “But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Jesus cured not just to prove He was God, but because He was abounding in love. God is more than willing to save and heal all who come to Him with open and contrite hearts. Healing can be a test of faith, but also a natural response to God’s generous love. The minister of healing, who is nothing more than a human channel, says the prayer of healing and then steps aside.
After welcoming the presence of Jesus, and giving Him praise and thanksgiving, we turn to laying of hands, which is biblical: “They will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well“Mark 16:18
Along with a prayer of faith, the value of touching the sick person in any way possible provides a channel, where power is transferred more readily and far, far more effectively. There seems to be a current of healing power that flows from the minister of healing to the sick person. But Jesus said, “Someone touched Me; I know that power has gone out from Me.” Luke 8:46Continue reading A FAITH PRAYER & HEALING→
Who is This Jesus? How Reliable is the Information about Christ?, and Can a Dead Man Come Back to Life?
Lee Strobel is a famous atheist who turned Christian when working for the Chicago Tribune. He sought to disprove God and discredit Christianity, and yet his journey brought him to faith. Yes, Strobel became a Christian while writing The Case for Christ.
This book demonstrates that Christianity is not just another religion to choose from, but a belief based on facts, history, and logic.
I believe anyone with doubts about Jesus Christ will view Him differently after reading his book. The Christian layperson will also benefit by learning answers to support her beliefs.
“You must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.” 1 Peter 3:15-16
Strobel defends the historical reliability of the New Testament. He considers: (a) the eyewitness evidence, (b) documentary evidence, (c) corroborating evidence,
When people begin religious movements, it’s often not until many generations later that people record things about them” For almost a century Christianity went unnoticed by most men and women in the Roman Empire. Non-Christians saw the Christian community as a tiny, peculiar, antisocial, sect of the lower strata of society
The books of the New Testament originally existed only as oral tradition. The disciples lived in an “oral culture, in which there was great emphasis placed on memorization”
The four gospels were in fact written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and therefore the canonical gospels are eyewitness testimony. This fact is confirmed by Papias (writing circa CE 125) and Irenaeus (writing circa 180); the authorship of the gospels was never in doubt among early Christians. If this claim were false, hostile witnesses would have happily shouted that fact from the mountaintops.
We have far more ancient copies of the New Testament than we have of, say, Homer’s Iliador Tacitus’s Annals of Imperial Rome.
The early church adopted three criteria in evaluating documents for inclusion in the New Testament:
(i) Was the book written by an apostle or by a follower of an apostle? (ii) Did the book conform to what Christians already believed? (iii) Had the book been continuously accepted and used by the church at large?
These criteria may have been “loaded from the outset, like dice that are weighted so they yield the result that was desired all along” Does that not speak of the direction from the Holy Spirit.
God has commanded us to not change His Word. As He is the author, He holds the eternal copyright. He allows us, nay, commands us, to copy and spread His Word to the entire world. However, He strictly forbids the addition or removal of anything from His Word.
“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” Deuteronomy 4:2
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.” Revelation 22:18, 19
AGNOSTIC: a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.
AS TO THE GODS, I HAVE NO MEANS OF KNOWING EITHER THAT THEY EXIST OR DO NOT EXIST.• PROTAGORAS 410BC
Are there NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE in which an agnostic encountered God?
Dr. Atwater is an international authority on near- death states as well as a person who experienced near death. She is one of the original researchers in the field of near-death studies, having begun her work in 1978. More than 3,000 people are registered at her discussion form site, and we understand that they have one of the largest databases on near death experiencesin the world.
Where arguments arise amongst various people and groups is over the interpretation of that light and any form it make take, and how to regard it.
Scientists say it is endorphins; Muslims say it is fantasy; religious fundamentalists of any “stripe” say it is Satan (Lucifer). People of faith say it is either of God or of emissaries from God.
The spiritual images began to ooze large quantities of olive oil. Other secular pictures on the wall like diplomas were not affected. Many sick people were healed by the application of this heavenly oil. The most prolific source of this oil comes from the above statue of Christ on a cross. Notice the small pail at the bottom of His feet.
The pictures on the wall bear a multitude of holy patterns that look like Jesus’ face and other such things when you look closely. An example: a rose petal with an image of Jesus on it fell right on her. The petal is encased in glass and featured on postcards she gives out.
They have a daughter with Down’s Syndrome. Maureen says people report to having holy visions of the girl. They make miraculous recoveries from grave illness after witnessing this vision.
They welcome bus loads of visitors from the United States and Canada and give away vials of the heavenly oil. They accept no donations.
The Marollys, a devout Catholic couple from Pakistan live in a home in the West Island full of statues which get inexplicably covered in oil all day long. The thick, clear oil descends off the figures in such quantities that they require a small drain pipe to catch the viscous fluid into a glass jug at the end of the coffee table. Scientifically, it is true olive oil. The drain pipe is affixed to the coffee table that holds many statuettes that each ooze oil.
There are those holy people who also have a holy chapel in their home. These holy people trade their statuettes with those “sweating” statuettes on the large coffee table. The traded statuettes continue to sweat in their new holy environment.
Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind anyone whom you need to forgive. Respond to His prompting and specifically name each person. Remember, the ones that you find hardest to forgive are the ones you most need to forgive. You can use these words:
I forgive all who have harmed me or wronged me in the past. In particular, I forgive (name those who you need to forgive). It is done in heaven.
Forgiveness is a decision. It is not an emotion. Yet, psychologically, you may still find it difficult to forgive someone who really harmed you. This is when you take it upon yourself to pray a short prayer for that person including the above prayer every day for ten days. It will also be done in your mind.
Why is the important? God offers to forgive your ten million dollar debt to Him if you forgive a ten thousand dollar debt for someone is owed you. If you persist in holding on to this debt, God will hold onto yours. It becomes merely enlightened self-interest.
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:25
BLESSING AND CURSES Derek Prince
The root cause of unforgiveness is bitterness and hatred towards the person who has offended us.
“Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated Me!
“You have cheated Me of the tithes and offerings due to Me. Bring all the tithes (and) “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in!” Try it! Put Me to the test!Malachi 3:8, 10
This refers to living consistently in the blessing of God, not just a one shot healing.
Healing is a free gift, but we must fulfill the conditions that God sets out including releasing your finances to Him. You have to give to God what is rightly His. You cannot rob from God and expect Him to consistently heal you.
So you say that this biblical reference comes only from the Old Testament. Yet, the New Testament goes even further in the Acts of the Apostle, where Jesus asks a young man to sell everything he had and follow Him.
We still feel our desire to make a positive difference to others (because of our capacity for empathy and conscience) even if we don’t acknowledge or act on it. Similarly, we still feel a desire for the transcendent and spiritual (because of the five transcendental desires and our awareness of the spiritual) even if we refuse to believe in the transcendent.
These unfulfilled desires have a curious consequence—they make us feel empty.
We not only miss the satisfactions of contribution, love, transcendence, and spiritual life, but our self-consciousness comprehends that we are only fulfilling part of ourselves. “Existential emptiness” refers to this complex of self-alienation and self-negation.
Thus, if we are to overcome dominant Level One and Level Two identity, we will have to replace it with dominant Level Three and Level Four identity.
Many of us will try to block it out by increasing our pursuit of Level One and Level Two desires. “If two scotches won’t make me feel better, perhaps five will.” “I feel a sudden need to have another twenty pairs of shoes and three Armani purses.” I am going to take a big risk and leave the town in which my family is most comfortable, to take an even more prestigious job.”
They truly manifest Augustine’s recognition of his own journey to God—“Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”
The need to cover over our sense of emptiness, guilt, and tragedy becomes more and more acute, and we take greater risks—more alcohol, more drugs, more base pursuits on the Internet, more ego highs, more accumulation of possessions, more exaggerated claims about accomplishments, and even ethically questionable behaviors to keep the upward momentum going.
This leads to either the positive one (to move toward dominant Levels Three and Four) or the truly negative one (sinking into a sea of emptiness, depression, and despair).
What happens if we take the “low road”? It manifests itself somewhat gradually. We find ourselves wanting to sleep more, watch more television, play more games on the Internet, spend more time at the club, and so forth. We always have a justification for this: “Sleep is restorative.” “That movie is a real classic, and by watching it for the fifth time it will really give me a new perspective on life.” “The Internet games are helping my mental agility.”
The depression is turning into despair, and if it is not treated, it could become tragic.
ESCAPING YOUR PERSONAL HELL
We will look at “Level Three replacement therapy”
Some people will feel more naturally inclined to pursue Level Three methods first, and then Level Four, while others (like myself) are more naturally inclined to pursue Level Four methods first, and then back into Level Three methods. I would submit that both Level Three and Level Four are essential for moving out of a dominant Level One-Two identity.
Alternatively, if Level Four is unaccompanied by Level Three, then it can lead to a superficial faith that does not seek to make a contribution to people, the common good, and the culture—it is a faith without charitable love (agapē). Moreover, Level Three contribution and love reinforces Level Four faith, while the grace of Level Four faith reinforces Level Three contribution and love.
Our dominant view of happiness determines what we are looking for, and this in turn determines what we are living for (our life’s purpose), and when we live for a particular purpose long enough, it becomes our identity (the definition we give to ourselves).
It is important to find a path to Levels Three and Four before they hit “rock bottom”.
There are some Christians that claim that the basic nature of human beings is sinful. It is the human tendency to rebel against, ignore, or resist God’s will. This makes human beings susceptible to illness. In a sense, a person can actually own his or her sickness or take responsibility for it. So illness is often linked to life style, which has moral overtones. The word, “disease” says it all: it means “without ease” or stress.
CAUSES OF SICKNESS
There are two principal theological interpretations of sicknessand healing:
Sickness is caused by forces or spirits opposed to God out of sheer perverseness. The devil wishes to thwart the divine plan for humankind. So illness is not the fault of the sick person. This is the view that Jesus took 2000 years ago.
Sickness is caused by God for different reasons. Sickness may be used to teach a person a lesson of faith. It may be used as a test so that a person can provide an example of faith for others as in the case of Job.
The sick person is understood to have earned the illness. The real aim of the sickness may be to change or moderate the nature of a person’s life.
The charismatic healers know very little or nothing about medical science and did not practice elaborate therapy. Most of these healers belong to the “holy person” category. They never ask for any fees for healing.
There are no elaborate rituals or complicated techniques. The healing is done by touch or command in the Name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ in the same manner as Jesus healed. A healer may use a general prayer such as, “May the mercy of God, which is present here with us now, enter into your soul, your mind, your body, and heal you from all that harms you” By Your stripes (whippings) Lord Jesus, you, , are healed! These last few words are the most important and they are based on the Bible: “With His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 and “by whose stripes you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
For specific healing, the words to use can be, “Send Your power right now into this baby’s ears and take away all germs or infection and make them well”. Some healers speak directly to evil spirits: “You spirit of disease, I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, to come out of this boy,_______.”
