BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
” …you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1: 5
Paul’s main argument is this: isn’t it true that you experienced the work of the Spirit among you. “… does God give you His Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?” Galatians :1-5
“I will send you what my Father has promised, but you must stay in Jerusalem until you have received that power from heaven.” Luke 24: 49
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17
“We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” 1 John 4:13
Christians begin to experience something different in their God prefers to give the gift of prophecy to a body through an individual, not to an individual for his own use. So that each spiritual gift is a working of the Spirit which is given to build up the Church. “For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body… and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” 1 Corinthians12:13
“And John came and laid hands on them ‘and they received the Holy Spirit“ Acts 8:17 Some experienced a deep peace or joy. Some even laughed. Some experienced one’s whole life begins to change completely different.
” 4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit...
8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the self same Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:4,8-11
Paul emphasizes the need to seek spiritual gifts. A community of Christians need special gifts from God to know the Bible in order to preach it. They need to have their preaching accompanied by signs so that others will believe.
“And he preached, saying, One cometh after me, that latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 8. I indeed have baptized you with water: but He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.” Mark 1:7-8 In other words, Jesus is the baptizer with the Holy Spirit.
