Newsweek’s own nationwide survey discovered:
- A stunning 87% of all Americans believe that prayer is answered by God.
- 82% asked for heath or success for a child or other family member when praying.
- 75% asked for strength to overcome personal weakness
- 85% don’t turn away from prayer even after prayers are not answered.
It has also been reported that all but a few medical doctors believe in God and 69% of doctors pray from time to time.
The real message is that prayer is truly of preeminent importance today.
Why would God, who knows everything, ask us to pray when He already knows our needs before we ask?
Actually, prayer comes very naturally to us. There is even a yearning in our most innermost being that leads us to prayer. Where does this deep compulsion originate?
God designed us so that we might wish to know and be more like Him. We are “wired for God”. St. Augustine said,”You have made us for Yourself; and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” We have been created for a purpose: to know, love and serve our God. So God wills us to develop an intimate fellowship with Him.
So we need to spend time together in silence and in the most intimate kind of discourse. Our prayer should be a deep soul conversation with our Creator, which was designed from the beginning.
Prayer in a community is also part of God’s plan, “where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20 In fact, there is more power in this form of prayer.
The vast company of faithful in other world religions believes that prayer makes a tremendous difference in one’s life. So as a species, we have found that prayer works and most of us cannot function well without it.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
There is the question of praying to get your own way or having prayer answered on your terms. Many have found that this approach is a huge step in the wrong direction, even a direct tragedy. In fact, many have also notices how out of (apparent) evil, much good has come.
It is hard for us to see the bigger picture in a great many of our life’s tragedies. Many have experienced spiritual growth as a consequence of what we believe to be failures of our prayers. Such tragedies can be sent by God for that purpose: spiritual growth – not to punish us.
THE CHALLENGE: TASTE AND SEE.
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in Him.” Psalm 34:8
Let us put prayer to the test in our own life and see if there is a difference. Start with Psalm 23, which helps to build your confidence in God. No matter what your faith or lack of, even if you have never experienced any form of prayer, you are urged to experiment with affirming this “prayer” daily for a month – say before you turn to sleep in the evening.
You will discover that this simple prayer will eventually become the core of your spiritual life from now on. You will recognize the difference in your life! Try it and see! (The King James Version is much more traditional, but it is more eloquent.) Simply print it!
THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
Why do we think that this experiment will work? God has promised that we shall never be in dire need of whatever it is that is truly essential for our ultimate happiness in the world and the next. That’s a promise:” I shall not want.”! Of course, we are not talking about every petty wish or desire. It all happens within the timing and will of God. Your faith will grow or your patience of waiting on God will be tested.
HOW DOES PRAYER WORK?
Will we ever know how prayer works as long as we live in this earthly existence? Any scientific explanation remains quite elusive. Scientists simply don’t know. Albert Einstein once admitted that “Science without religion is lame.”
This question is similar to the riddle of how our conscience works. Also, few of us can explain how gravity works; we have never seen or touched it. Yet, we know it works from the influence and results around us. It is the same with prayers: they bring the deepest unimaginable results from God. Prayer aligns ourselves with the will of God with light and healing energy toward the one who we are praying for.
It is not a matter of persuading God to do something that He is reluctant to do. It’s not a bargaining.
Prayer has long been uncultivated among Christians for two reasons:
- The invention of the printing press: Christians have been repeating words created by other people and encouraged to “say their prayers” by reciting the words over and over again.
- A feeling that God is inaccessible: deep personal relationships are not possible with this view.
A possible solution to this problem is to find God in the world of creation itself. God can be identified with the rain, wind and sun. What is needed most is the experience of success of prayer. Once we are touched in the depths of our being, we can never be the same again. God is there for those who seek Him. “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:23, 24
It may be true that you have resentment toward God for His way of dealing with people. The only honest prayer is, “Dear God, I am angry… damned angry!”
God can use all your faculties to communicate with you. He can put new ideas in your mind. He can illuminate your mind in order to see Him better. He can inspire us with new desires. He can give us courage. He can stir up our love. He can prevent us from repeating an old mistake. God can also affect a physical and emotional cure to those who are open to Him. All this is possible from the infusion of His grace. Prayer is a conversation with God, and the art of prayer is the knowing of how to speak to and listen to God. Vassula writes down the messages which she receives in a stately handwriting, quite distinct from her own. She hears, interiorly, a voice first, then , when she has to write down what she has heard, her writing changes. TLIG.org
Prayers are mostly about responding with the heart, not with the written word. “I, God, exist and I feel; any call which is lip-service might as well stay buried; lip-services are calls bellowing from graves; remember, I exist and feel; I wish that all My children work, giving Me joy; Mean every word you say in a prayer: any call which is lip service might as well stay buried. God exists and God feels.” September 30, 1986
Discipline is the other side of discipleship. Discipleship without discipline is like waiting to run in the marathon without ever practicing. Discipline without discipleship is like always practicing for the marathon but never participating. It is important, however, to realize that discipline in the spiritual life is not the same as discipline in sports. Discipline in sports is the concentrated effort to master the body so that it can obey the mind better.
Discipline in the spiritual life is the concentrated effort to create the space and time where God can become our master and where we can respond freely to God’s guidance. Thus, discipline is the creation of boundaries that keep time and space open for God. Solitude requires discipline, worship requires discipline, caring for others requires discipline. They all ask us to set apart a time and a place where God’s gracious presence can be acknowledged and responded to. HENRI NOUWEN
JESUS WISHES TO SPEAK TO YOU.
Let Your Day be a Continuous Communion with Me.
“I love you.
My friends, you are always in My presence for I am very near to you. The greatest gift I can give you, is the gift of myself. If I live in your heart, then you have a taste of heaven.
Let your day be a continuous communion with Me. You should remind yourself often during the day that I am in your heart and you should speak to Me through acts of faith, hope and love.
Take Me along to your work and I will help you. You will work with a heart full of joy. Trials will come your way from time to time. With My grace you will go through them without committing sin. It is in trials that you are purified and made the delight of My eyes.
You are never tried beyond your means and I strengthen you to go through them. Arm yourself every day with prayer, prudence and a heart full of love. Do not let self-pity, pride, discouragement or doubt destroy the wonderful gifts I gave you.
Put your life in Me and I will keep you safe from the evil one. Be humble and rely on Me, I will make you strong.
I love you.”
The above messages came to Father Melvin Doucette:
God divinely inspired the BIBLE . How do we know? Each of eight accurate predictions show a high probability mathematically. The probability of one individual fulfilling eight prophecies have odds of 1 in 10 17 (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000). Jesus Christ fulfilled all prophecies, therefore the Bible MUST BE TRUE. The Old Testament indicates another 40 astonishing predictions. Christianity experiences stunning growth—from approximately 3.8 million adherents in China in 1956 to an estimated 87 to 100 million Christians today. In the end, one Christian conversion will benefit the whole family. The gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and deliverance will help the whole family. A prayer of deliverance of evil spirits will leave any member of the family with a complete sense of peace immediately.
A prayer of healing from a Christian disciple produces 80% healing. The remaining healing comes from continued prayer of praise and thanksgiving until all the healing is complete. This healing comes from the Holy Spirit through the power in the Name of Jesus Christ. No other god or deity or doctor uses this power. This proves the TRUTH OF CHRISTIANITY.
BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS CAN’ T ALL BE WRONG!
Christianity is not a philosophy, but it is a relationship with God, your Creator, in Christ TODAY. It is not knowledge of abstract principles. How do we know this? Healing takes place TODAY in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Many Christian disciples use the gift of healing. They also use deliverance to deliver away evil spirits influencing people. These evil spirits cause depression, addictions and illness through all forms of stress. Only the Name of Jesus Christ makes healing and deliverance possible.
HOW IS JESUS STILL ALIVE TODAY?
Jesus is alive today! He heals today (through His followers) and in many cases it is realized immediately. How else can you explain the explosion of Christianity, the world’s largest religion, on earth: 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31 percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.
Christians know and feel His Presence; they communicate with Him personally; Christian prayers are always answered. This author has been given the Gift of Healing only because he is a Christian Lay Missionary, who travels two to three places every year. On his last trip to Columbia he successfully transferred his Gift to his Spanish translators, who were able to heal as he did. He has healed Muslims to their great surprise. He also delivers away evil spirits along with their healing. All those who are delivered from evil spirits feel a complete physical sense of peace.
DREAMS AND VISIONS
God can give a message to those non-Christians to change their heart. God knows faith will be developed eventually. God will come to you in the form of dreams or visions. So be sensitive to any dreams or visions, when you ask God for it earnestly.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I live a clean life!” Christians whisper “I feel lost, but now God found me and God forgives me.”
- Christians don’t speak with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they try to be strong because they need strength.
- Christians don’t brag about success, but they admit that they fail and they need God to clean the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect, but God still believes in them.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain. They have their share of headaches but they still call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than others. They are simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will begin. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49 Are we not like Barabbas who was justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost, like you. “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool”. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to a Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading a short biography of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. He will defend you from attacks of the enemy when you ask Him.
