Was Jesus a Revolutionary?
Was Jesus, then, a revolutionary? Not in any sense that Lenin or Trotsky would have recognized. When people hear the words radical and revolutionary they instantly think of some aggressive, gun toting, anarchist that has motives to overthrow an earthly government, but that was not the intentions of Jesus. The word “radical” comes from a Latin word “radix” which simply means “to cut to the root” as in “radical surgery” to remove a cancerous growth. In this sense, Jesus was a radical with a radical message that was indeed meant to cut to the root of wrong and remove it from our lives.
THE ANCIENT WORLD BEFORE JESUS CHRIST
The Mediterranean Sea was still a geographer’s main point of reference, if not the center of the world. In 2 A.D., a census of the Han dynasty showed that its people numbered around 57.5 million. The Roman Empire, which had around 45 million people in it at the time, did not know about any Chinese civilization.
If you want to know what it was like before Jesus Christ walked the Earth, all you have to do is read a few history books written before 0 AD. There was discrimination in Ancient Greece: Plato wrote in The Republic that it would be an ideal state that “every member of the community must be assigned to the class for which he finds himself best fitted. Aristotle philosophized that people should be given goods and assets according to their merit.
Before Christ, except among the Jewish People, religion was a “blind search for God.” Life before Christ was filled with superstition, fear of the unknown and an attempt to make sense of a world and universe they could not possibly understand. Man made gods in his own image, usually celebrations of his vices or his needs. Most of the stuff associated with the cave paintings is presumed to be associated with some form of shamanic practices, or more accurately nature worship or animism.
Pre-Christian faiths were not uniform; their gods had no consistent meaning to all adherents, they had no central dogmas or tenets. The most famous god in Ancient Greek was Zeus.
Let us reflect at these times when slavery and subjugation of women was typical. From the dawn of human society every woman was in a state of bondage to some man, because she was of value to him and she had less muscular strength than he did.
No woman in Athens could own anything more than her own clothing, jewelry and personal slave. When she was ready to marry, her father or other guardian would choose a potential husband. In the early days of the Roman Republic women were not even allowed to make suggestions, at least in public.
FATHER POWERS WERE LIKE PROPERTY OWNERS
The authority of a head of household over other members of the family gave the father powers that were, in some cases, analogous to those of a property owner. He could sell his children into slavery or hire out their labor, or he could hand over his wife or children by way of pledge to secure a debt. A son owned no property while his father was alive and a wife’s dowry was subsumed into the marital assets that were controlled by her husband.
An upper class Roman family had dozens, or even hundreds, of slaves; a middle-class family would have had one to three. Some slaves were “house-born” and they would have been the offspring of a union of master and slave.
Slaves were treated as ordinary chattels and could be sold, pledged, hired, given as gifts, inherited, and forfeited. Slaves could not legally marry. Piercing a slave’s ear was for the purpose of inserting an ownership tag of some sort.
Serfs were a class of workers attached to a palace or temple or to an estate, who economically shared the same condition as slaves.
Debtors could give themselves or persons under their authority to creditors by way of pledge: analogous to those of slavery: the pledge lost his personal freedom and was required to serve the pledgee, who exploited the pledge’s labor. Where a debtor was in default, the creditor was entitled to distraint his property, including slaves, as well as members of his family.
Enslavement for famine was similar to enslavement for debt. Children were sold into slavery in exchange for their being kept alive and for money for food for their parents.
Foreigners captured in war were booty. They were not automatically slaves, but they were without rights and therefore potential slaves. Involuntary enslavement applied only to foreigners.
The World in which Christ was Born
Jesus would accomplish His revolutionary mission by demonstrating the unfathomable love that God, His Father, has for His human creation. He would demonstrate how much He loves us even while we hated Him. His was a revolution of love – the most powerful force in the universe. Why is it that every time Jesus is asked, “How can I go to heaven?” He ALWAYS replies, without fail, “Love God and Love People.”
By contrast, Jesus railed against the backsliding, hypocrisy, and empty formalism of people like the Pharisees, and, more generally, against the rich and powerful, men whose smug corruption put them largely beyond redemption. ‘Ye cannot serve God and Mammon,’ Jesus declared. The choice, it seems, was wealth or holiness. Jesus often rebuked the religious leaders because though they thought they were righteous, they really weren’t. And what were they missing?
They had neglected the more important matters of the law––justice, mercy and faithfulness. Matthew 23:23
Isaiah writes that the light that was coming into the world came to a people shrouded in darkness. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” Isaiah 9:1-2.
A SEASON OF HOPE
For we all face seasons of darkness. You will learn through any season of suffering that God never leaves His children in the dark forever. He can’t, because He is the God of light: “God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
Remembering that the light of Christ came in the darkness of night gives us hope that God can still pour light into our hearts and shine light into our lives. No matter how dark it may be, no matter where the darkness comes from, God is the light who enlightens everyone, and has come to take up residence in the lives of those who look to Christ.
JESUS WISHES TO SPEAK TO YOU.
Your New Life with Me has Begun.
“I love you. We are in the desert with only rocks and clay around us. There are no trees, no flowers, no grass. These surroundings give us a feeling of detachment from the world because we are not attracted to anything in a place like this.
Now our spirits can soar and be with God. The desert is a wonderful place to meet God, our Lord and Creator.
My friend, empty yourselves of everything that keeps you from Me. Bring Me the resentment, anger, hatred, jealousy, fear, and hurt in your heart because these attitudes and feelings hold you down and cause you great darkness and suffering.
Give them all to Me, and I am going to set you free and give you peace. If you open your heart to Me, I am going to live in your heart, I am going to bring you joy, and I am going to teach your heart to sing My praises.
Ask for My protection and together with your guardian angel and I am going to stand guard against the devil.
Come close to My heart and spend time with Me. I am going to help you pray and I am going to listen to your prayer.
I am going to pour my love upon you because I love you as My own. Come today to the spiritual desert and you are going to find Me there. I bless you all.”
The above messages came to Father Melvin Doucette:
Fr. Melvin Doucette was ordained to the priesthood on and joined the Missionaries of Africa for 29 years in Africa. In contemplative prayer every morning, Fr. Doucette receives by interior locution “messages from heaven” to share with the public.
God divinely inspired the BIBLE . How do we know? Each of eight accurate predictions show a high probability mathematically. The probability of one individual fulfilling eight prophecies have odds of 1 in 10 17 (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000). Jesus Christ fulfilled all prophecies, therefore the Bible MUST BE TRUE.
The Old Testament indicates another 40 astonishing predictions.
Christianity experiences stunning growth—from approximately 3.8 million adherents in China in 1956 to an estimated 87 to 100 million Christians today.
In the end, one Christian conversion will benefit the whole family. The gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and deliverance will help the whole family. A prayer of deliverance of evil spirits will leave any member of the family with a complete sense of peace immediately. A prayer of healing from a Christian disciple produces 80% healing. The remaining healing comes from continued prayer of praise and thanksgiving until all the healing is complete. This healing comes from the Holy Spirit through the power in the Name of Jesus Christ. No other god or deity or doctor uses this power. This proves the TRUTH OF CHRISTIANITY.
BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS CAN’ T ALL BE WRONG!
Christianity is not a philosophy, but it is a relationship with God, your Creator, in Christ TODAY. It is not knowledge of abstract principles. How do we know this? Healing takes place TODAY in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Many Christian disciples use the gift of healing. They also use deliverance to deliver away evil spirits influencing people. These evil spirits cause depression, addictions and illness through all forms of stress. Only the Name of Jesus Christ makes healing and deliverance possible.
HOW IS JESUS STILL ALIVE TODAY?
Jesus is alive today! He heals today (through His followers) and in many cases it is realized immediately. How else can you explain the explosion of Christianity, the world’s largest religion, on earth: 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31 percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.
Christians know and feel His Presence; they communicate with Him personally; Christian prayers are always answered.
This author has been given the Gift of Healing only because he is a Christian Lay Missionary, who travels two to three places every year. On his last trip to Columbia he successfully transferred his Gift to his Spanish translators, who were able to heal as he did. He has healed Muslims to their great surprise.
He also delivers away evil spirits along with their healing. All those who are delivered from evil spirits feel a complete physical sense of peace.
DREAMS AND VISIONS
God can give a message to those non-Christians to change their heart. God knows faith will be developed eventually. God will come to you in the form of dreams or visions. So be sensitive to any dreams or visions, when you ask God for it earnestly.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I live a clean life!” Christians whisper “I feel lost, but now God found me and God forgives me.”
- Christians don’t speak with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they try to be strong because they need strength.
- Christians don’t brag about success, but they admit that they fail and they need God to clean the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect, but God still believes in them.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain. They have their share of headaches but they still call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than others. They are simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will begin. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49
Are we not like Barabbas who was justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost, like you.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool”. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to a Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading a short biography of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. He will defend you from attacks of the enemy when you ask Him.
