OVERCOMING STRESS

EVERYONE IS FAMILIAR WITH STRESS.

PANIC OR ANXIETY ATTACKS

Anxiety or panic attacks can be caused by a consequence of circumstances and relationships in our lives. In small doses, stress can benefit us, but when it is too great, it affects our physical and mental functions.

“Save me, O God,
for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in the miry depths,
    where there is no foothold.
I have come into the deep waters;
the floods engulf me.”                                    Psalm 69:1-2

Many of us have felt stress as a result of the pressure of expectation—of not being good enough: good enough to make the team or good enough to be popular. When we fail to meet these expectations, disappointment can be crushing. Sometimes pressure or stress continues no matter how hard we try: it is simply too overwhelming.

To make matters worse, we may know that we are in this awful position because of our own fault. Some of the pressures of life could have been avoided with better personal choices.

ANXIETY ATTACK
ANXIETY ATTACK

We can also experience stress of waiting for God to meet His own expectations:

“I am worn out calling for help;
    my throat is parched.
My eyes fail,
looking for my God.”                                        Psalm 69:3

To begin with, we should never make important decisions when we are under pressure. The ramifications can affect the rest of your life.

Asking for help may seem very humbling. We have to acknowledge our personal inadequacy.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”                                                                                                                                                1 Peter 5: 6, 7

We simply say, “Help me Lord, because you are a God of mercy.”—“in Your time

“But I pray to You, Lord,
    in the time of Your favor;
in your great love, O God,
answer me with Your sure salvation.”  Psalm 69:13

David chooses to find his release from stress by praising God. This is another way of saying that you trust God to solve your problem.

“I will praise God’s name in song
and glorify Him with thanksgiving.”  Psalm 69:30

HOW DOES PRAYER WORK?

Will we ever know how prayer works as long as we live in this earthly existence? Any scientific explanation remains quite elusive. Scientists simply don’t know. This question is similar to the riddle of how our conscience works.  These are the deepest questions pertaining to God. Albert Einstein once admitted that “Science without religion is lame.”

OVERCOMING FEAR

YOUNG AND RESTLESS

When you are young, you feel invincible. Life stretches before you without limits. Then you grow up and you take on more responsibilities. You have to be more ready for eventualities that require things like insurance and savings.

You start to see life as increasingly fragile and you begin to hedge your bets. Before you would just “go for it”, but now your look for the safe ground.

Then events begin to unravel around you, like the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. The world’s only super power had been brought to its knees by a handful of terrorists with box cutters.

THE POWER OF FEAR

President Roosevelt spoke about fear itself in 1933: nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror that paralyzes us. He said,” the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

David captured the immobilization of that fear:

“I will watch my ways
    and keep my tongue from sin;
I will put a muzzle on my mouth

while in the presence of the wicked.”
So I remained utterly silent,
    not even saying anything good.
But my anguish increased.”
Psalm 39:1-2

When we are threatened, fear clouds our judgment and can impede us from doing the right thing.

LIFE IS SHORT.

“Surely every man at his best is a mere breath.” Psalm 39:5 And we “make an uproar over nothing” orin vain we rush about”  Psalm 39:6 So we must make sure that our lives count for something.

There is hope:” “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in You. Psalm 39:7

We can regret our limitations that we endure and live accordingly, or we can live our lives to make a difference. We should not to be governed by the length of our days, but by the depth of our commitment.

Only God can overwhelm our sense of futility with His purpose. Only God can defeat our temporary existence with the hope of life that is everlasting (heaven).

LOOK FOR HIDDEN ROOTS.

It is a demonic and yes, you can be delivered of it. Look for hidden roots.  Examples of roots are guilt, which is defined as a feeling of responsibility or remorse for some offense, failure, mistake, crime, or wrong, whether real or imagined. It is associated with negative feelings such as shame, remorse, anguish, torment, self-condemnation, self-unforgiveness, self-judgment.

Do you often wondered about your own problems:

  1.  An inordinate desire to please
  2. Inability to say no to things I didn’t want to do
  3. Always setting goals, working hard to accomplish them and then stopping short of success
  4. Always feeling I had to do things better than anyone else
  5. Trying to make everything around me and about me look better than I thought it was

END OF NORMAL

Here is the Real Tragedy: THE NEW NORMAL

Climate change is a devilish problem for humanity with scary forecasts. It is worse, much worse, than you think. If your anxiety about global warming is dominated by fears of sea-level rise, you are barely scratching the surface of what terrors are possible. Across the US, “500-year” storms pummel communities month after month, and floods displace tens of millions annually.

Parts of the Earth could become close to uninhabitable, and other parts horrifically inhospitable, as soon as the end of this century, distorting nearly every aspect of human life as it is lived today. They expect 200 million climate refugees in the world by 2050.

END OF NORMAL
END OF NORMAL

Like An Inconvenient Truth and Silent Spring before it, The Uninhabitable Earth is both a meditation on the devastation we have brought upon ourselves and an impassioned call to action. The world was brought to the brink of catastrophe within the span of a lifetime.

END OF NORMAL
END OF NORMAL

Because humans are responsible for the problem, they must be capable of undoing at least some of it. It sounds the alarm at a time when immediate action must be taken. The responsibility to avoid it now belongs to a single generation: your generation!

Stimulus and automatic stabilization are still able to place a floor under economic collapse. But they are not able to bring about a return to high growth and full employment. Exercising caution over warning signs is tantamount to complacency.

The book, The Uninhabitable Earth: Life after Warming depicts the most horrendous catastrophes that will wreak havoc and death on the earth if the people and nations do not immediately undertake major serious programs to halt global warming – if it is not already too late.

Global warming is wreaking havoc now. In California, wildfires now rage year-round, destroying thousands of homes. Five of the 20 worst fires in California’s history blazed in 2017; the deadliest incinerated the town of Paradise last year. Floods are becoming wetter, droughts drier and hurricanes fiercer. Such calamities mark “the end of normal”, as climate change tips Earth beyond the conditions that allowed humans to evolve in the first place. And that is with barely 1°C of man-made warming since the industrial revolution.

Things will get much worse. The world is on course to become at least 3°C hotter than in pre-industrial times. Even if warming did not exceed 2°C, as stipulated in the Paris climate agreement of 2015, rising seas may engulf $1 trillion-worth of American property.

SOLUTIONS TO BULLYING

Bullying Solutions

SUFFERING IN SILENCE

Bullying can enter a kid’s life at anytime and send them spiraling down towards hopelessness and despair. The young victims are rarely aware of the options available to them, which is why they continue to suffer in silence. You need to help your child realize that they’re not weak and help them discover ways to bring their torment to an end.

A SUFFOCATING EXPERIENCE

Bullying can often leave the victim feeling utterly distraught, making them feel like the walls are closing in on them and that there’s no easy escape from the nightmare. People they turn to for help can let them down, thus reinforcing their sense of isolation. Depression despair and desperation can drive them to the edge, tempting them to end their misery at the expense of their health, dreams and even life.

WARNING SIGNS

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) identify these possible warning signs for bullying:

  • Child comes home with torn, damaged or missing clothes, books, or belongings
  • Unexplained cuts, bruises, scratches
  • Has few friends, if any
  • Seems afraid to go to school or take part in after-school activities
  • Takes a long “illogical” route when walking to and from school
  • Has lost interest in school work or suddenly begins to do poorly
  • Appears sad, moody, teary, or depressed when he/she comes home
  • Has trouble sleeping and/or frequent bad dreams
  • Experiences a loss of appetite
  • Appears anxious and suffers from low self-esteem
  • Recurrent complaints of physical symptoms such as stomach-aches or headaches with no apparent cause
  • Sudden change in language (calling themselves a “loser” or a best friend a “jerk”)

LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR

THE PROBLEM OF FEAR

Faith and fear are opposed to each other. Cancer patients are fearful. Fear is not so much in the threat as our negative reaction to it. We end up being afraid of being afraid.

Fear does not come from God. “There is no fear in love… the one who fears is not perfect in love. “Perfect love casts out fear.”                                                                                                                                        1 John 4:18

We should fill our mind with strong faith affirmations. This is not simply “positive thinking” or “mind over matter”.  We actually draw on the promises of God by believing with the sort of faith that does not doubt.

I TRUST IN GOD AND FEAR NOTHING.

LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR.

Love casts out fear. Since I came to love God with my whole being and with all the strength of my heart, fear has left me. Even if I were to hear the most terrifying things about God’s justice, I would not fear Him at all, because I have come to know Him well.

God is love, and His Spirit is peace. I see now that my deeds which have flowed from love are more perfect than those which I have done out of fear. I have placed my trust in God and fear nothing. I have given myself over to His holy will; let Him do with me as He wishes, and I will still love Him.                                                          Diary 589

LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR.

While the Bible gives us some clues, the 20th century mystic St. Faustina received a particularly vivid vision, which she recorded in her diary. The messages include details of heaven, hell and spiritual warfare.

GREAT LOVE CAN CHANGE SMALL THINGS.

Great love can change small things into great ones, and it is only love which lends value to our actions. I am never so happy as when I suffer for Jesus, whom I love with every beat of my heart. Once when I was suffering greatly, I left my work and escaped to Jesus and asked Him to give me His strength. After a very short prayer I returned to my work filled with enthusiasm and joy.             Diary 303 Continue reading LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR

DELIVERANCE from FEAR, ABUSE & TRAUMA

FEARDELIVERANCE FEAR

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”1 John 4:18

NEGATIVE, SELF-CRITICAL, ANXIETY THINKING

Despite Jesus’ admonition not to worry, we do. We fill our minds with thoughts that provoke anxiety and even despair.

  • “What if …? “Thinking which always focuses on the future and not the present.
  • “If only…?” Thinking  which focuses on the past and not the present.
  • “I should…” Thinking  tends to ignore reality completely.  I should be able to hear my husband’s criticism without feeling hurt. (But the fact is that I do feel hurt.)
  • “I don’t have…” Thinking focuses on negative thinking. I don’t have the energy, the looks, the money…
  • Comparison Thinking: If you compare yourself to other people you may become bitter or vain. There will always be someone greater or lesser than yourself.

Jesus encourages us: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” John 13:1

DELIVERANCE FROM FEAR & ABUSE

Abuse – to maltreat; to misuse, to use with bad motives; to violate; to defile; to deceive, to impose on; to cause fear; to treat harshly; from using insulting language. Emotional abuse is usually the use of our words to undermine and attack a person or their worth or identity causing fear and trauma. What will be required is Deliverance.

WHAT IS DELIVERANCE?

deliverance is

Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.” Deliverance is often sought from evil spirits or the spirit of lust, jealousy, etc. We are told to “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”                                                                                                                                                  1 Peter 5:8,9

All aspects of deliverance are available only through the person and work of Jesus Christ:” When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, ‘Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!’”                                                                              Luke 10:17

 DO YOU NEED DELIVERANCE?
