EVANGELIZATION

EVANGELIZATION

THE PRINCIPAL AGENT OF MISSION

The coming of the Holy Spirit makes them witnesses and prophets   Acts 1:8; 2:17-18. It fills them with a serene courage which impels them to pass on to others their experience of Jesus and the hope which motivates them. The Spirit gives them the ability to bear witness to Jesus with “boldness.” When the first evangelizers go down from Jerusalem, the Spirit becomes even more of a “guide,” helping them to choose both those to whom they are to go and the places to which their missionary journey is to take them.

EVANGELIZATION

MAKING THE WHOLE CHURCH MISSIONARY

The Holy Spirit, who distributes His gifts as He wishes for the good of all, provides the tools needed to do missionary work such as the gift of healing. Christ stirs up a missionary vocation in the hearts of individuals, and at the same time raises up in the Church those institutes which undertake the duty of evangelization, which is the responsibility of the whole Church, as their special task.”  Evangelization will never be possible without the action of the Holy Spirit.

Peter explains this event as the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel: “I will pour out my spirit.” (Acts 2:17) Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit so that he can speak to the people about Jesus, the Son of God. (Acts 4:8) Paul too is filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17) before dedicating himself to his apostolic ministry, as is Stephen when he is chosen for the ministry of service and later on for the witness of blood. (Acts 6:5, 10; 7:55) The Spirit, who causes Peter, Paul and the Twelve to speak, and who inspires the words that they are to utter, also comes down “on those who heard the word.” (Acts 10:44)

It is in the “consolation of the Holy Spirit” that the Church increases. (Acts 9:31)The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church. It is He who explains to the faithful the deep meaning of the teaching of Jesus and of His mystery. It is the Holy Spirit who, today just as at the beginning of the Church, acts in every evangelizer who allows himself to be possessed and led by Him. The Holy Spirit places on his lips the words which he could not find by himself, and at the same time the Holy Spirit predisposes the soul of the hearer to be open and receptive to the Good News and to the kingdom being proclaimed.

Without the Holy Spirit the most convincing dialectic has no power over the heart of man. Without Him the most highly developed schemes resting on a sociological or psychological basis are quickly seen to be quite valueless.

EVANGELIZATION

Evangelii Nuntiandi

It must be said that the Holy Spirit is the principal agent of evangelization: it is He who impels each individual to proclaim the Gospel, and it is He who in the depths of consciences causes the word of salvation to be accepted and understood. But it can equally be said that He is the goal of evangelization: He alone stirs up the new creation, the new humanity of which evangelization is to be the result, with that unity in variety which evangelization wishes to achieve within the Christian community. Through the Holy Spirit the Gospel penetrates to the heart of the world, for it is He who causes people to discern the signs of the times- signs willed by God- which evangelization reveals and puts to use within history.

OF HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL VI (December 8, 1975)

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”                                                                                                                                       Romans 15:13

EFFUSION: A YOUTH HAPPENING

 A YOUTH MISSION

Our poor parish priest has his hands tied. He doesn’t know how to attract the youth to his church.

EFFUSION YOUTH

The most important element is prayer. We would ask all the elders of the church to pray and fast seriously for a new Pentecost experience, EFFUSION. The area of the church is blessed with holy water or holy oil in preparation for this Event.

EFFUSION YOUTH HAPPENING

The other proviso is that the parish has to encourage at least six youth in a team with a youth minister or youth leader. This team will continue the missionary work in the parish after the EFFUSION Event.

JESUS TAUGHT HEALING

HEALING - AS JESUS TAUGHT

THE MAN AND THE MIRACLES

Jesus stood before his disciples as a man of prayer. He spent long periods in prayer and urged his disciples to pray often.

Jesus drives out devils from the possessed and not only heals the lame and the blind, but performs prodigies that tax our power to believe: he walks on the water, quells hurricanes, multiplies bread and replaces the severed ear of a soldier without benefit of surgery.

The way Jesus worked His miracles was in response to the faith of those He healed. Those coming to Him to be cured had to manifest trust in Him and His message and believe that God was indeed working in His ministry. My daughter … your faith has restored you to health” Jesus tells the woman suffering from a hemorrhage.

In addition, Jesus would not work a miracle in order to induce faith in Him. He demanded a response that was genuine. Mark even says that Jesus could not work miracles if such faith was not present, as he found to be the case when He visited his home town.

Nothing was more important in His eyes than the Kingdom, and He constantly insisted on the need for undivided loyalty to God. Not even family affections must be allowed to interfere with one’s devotion to the Kingdom.

Jesus shows us only the direction in which we should move but does not provide us with a detailed map.

What it means to live under the sovereignty of God could not be spelled out in a list of rules; there had to be room for spontaneity and creativeness. The object is to integrate one’s life and behavior with the purpose of God in the world.

Dynamic Catholicism: A Historical Catechism Bokenkotter, Thomas.

Is  supernatural evangelism by healing biblical? Jesus did not rely on words alone to convince people as to who he was. Many times he said that if they did not believe His words then they should believe because of His miracles:“I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in My Father’s name speak for Me”              John 10:25

When Jesus appeared to His disciples, He gave them the Great Commission: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in My name shall they cast out devils …they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:15, 18 Jesus also said: “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing”.                                                                                                               John 14:12

HEALING - AS JESUS TAUGHT

We fail to do it the Jesus way because we are afraid of failure and embarrassment, which is natural. Remember all of the direction given in the Last Great Commission:   It includes a missionary effort. Continue reading JESUS TAUGHT HEALING

CHRISTIAN EVANGELISM

EVANGELISM

Paul says, “And He gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4: 11-12. We can see from Saint Paul’s teaching that the work of an evangelist is a specific ministry within the Church that also includes the ministry of the preacher and teacher. In it he says that the function of the five-fold ministry is to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry which builds up the Church.

EVANGELISM VASSULA

Vassula writes down the messages which she receives in a stately handwriting, quite distinct from her own.  She hears, interiorly, a voice first, then , when she has to write down what she has heard, her writing changes.                                                                                  TLIG.org

Jesus speaks: “I am raising new disciples every single day to glorify My Name again and evangelize with love for Love.”           April 22, 1990

“Today, generation, My Spirit of Grace comes to help you more lavishly than ever before, see? I am raising in each corner of the earth new altars to sanctify your lands and sanctify you all; it is by Grace that I intend to raise you and make out of you living altars carrying My Flame, for within you will be living My Spirit of Holiness, a Spirit unique, subtle, unsullied and Pure; then I shall send you out throughout the earth and your message will be to proclaim My Infinite Love, and I promise you, you who love Me, that in those days of darkness which will come on the whole world, I will keep you safe and I will lock you in the depths of My Sacred Heart; I shall be with you.”                                                May 12, 1990

“Prove yourselves holy by showing Me the souls you are converting and bringing to Me, for My Kingdom consists not in spoken words, nor of an outward appearance of religion, but an Inner Power that only I can give you through My Holy Spirit, if you seek it.”                             April 15, 1991

EVANGELIZING WHAT WE LOVE

WE EVANGELIZE WHAT WE LOVE

There are three languages that God has written on every heart: truth, goodness and beauty. Some people are more captivated on what is the truth and need more proof or reasons. Others are scandalized by the lack of goodness in the Church. Others still spend much time and effort seeking beautiful things in life, like artwork, music or travel. An evangelist must use the right language to connect to people.

Evangelism share the love

If your friend knows that you love him or her, then you have a pretty good chance of being heard. You can challenge him or her to grow and seek what is best.

Divine Appointment

The Holy Spirit provides the initiative for the conversation. This happens when you are praying for such conversations to happen. Pray that you will be sensitized to any divine appointment that God has aligned for you today.

Spiritual Conversation Starter Questions

  1. If you died today, do you know for sure you’d go to heaven?
  2. If you died and stood before God and He asked you ‘Why should I let you into Heaven?’  What would you say?”
