There is a relationship between healing and the need for deliverance. Many are never healed because they have never received deliverance from the spirits that made them sick.
WHAT IS DELIVERANCE?
Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.” Deliverance is often sought from evil spirits or the spirit of lust, jealousy, etc. We are told to “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.” 1 Peter 5:8,9
All aspects of deliverance are available only through the person and work of Jesus Christ:” When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, ‘Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!’” Luke 10:17
DO YOU NEED DELIVERANCE?
To determine if you are in need of deliverance, ask yourself the following questions:
- Are you continually argumentative or contrary–usually on the verge of anger?
- Are you violating, neglecting or causing pain in a relationship?
- Are you practicing sin and can’t seem to stop?
- Do you see a pattern of issues in your family, whether disease, poverty, anger, divorce, sexual perversion or other issues?
- You are sick all the time and the doctors find nothing wrong. You could be dealing with a spirit of infirmity?
- Are you having “spiritual” encounters, including recurring dreams/nightmares that you leave you fearful?
- Do you sometimes sense that the problem isn’t you, but rather something in you?
- Are you attracted to the occult. , e.g. Ouija Boards, Seance, Fortune Telling, Horoscopes, Hypnosis etc, or Witchcraft?
- Have you experienced traumatic events that have impacted your life negatively?
- Do you keep hitting the same wall.
Is it imaginable that a man, who had been with Jesus as His disciple, should betray Him to the high priest and have Him arrested and tortured and killed. His disciple was Judas Iscariot. He arranged everything to have Jesus arrested. He should have known that as God, Jesus knew everything that he was doing. This is why at the Last Supper, before Jesus consecrated the bread and wine, He announced that there was one present who would betray Him. None of the other Apostles knew about this but of course Judas knew because he had already started planning all this.
Judas is an example of a person who is possessed by the devil who leads him to betray his Saviour and Lord. In fact he had been a betrayer from the beginning as he used to steal money from the moneybag. There are many “Judases” in the world today; they are ready to betray Jesus for anything.
Christ knew well that Judas would not be converted and yet he tried to convert him to the very end by rebuking his sin with the most touching expressions: “Friend, why have you come?” Matthew 26:50 Now if Christ, the model of the pastor, worked to the end for the conversion of a hopeless case, what should we not do for those who have some hope?
How many of the following characteristics describe your life?
- Insecurity? Yet God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind? Timothy 1:7
- Inadequacy? Why should I fell like a failure when I am a conqueror in all things through Christ? Romans 8:37
- Guilt? Why should I feel condemned when I am in Christ? Romans 8:1
- Worry? Yet why should I worry and fret when I can cast all my anxiety on Christ who cares for me? 1 Peter 5:7
- Doubt? Why should I be confused when God is the author of peace and He gives me knowledge through His indwelling Spirit? 1 Corinthians 14:33; 2:12
- Inferiority? Why should I feel worthless when Christ became sin on my behalf, so that I might become the righteousness of God in Him? 2 Corinthians 5:21
Perhaps the greatest service performed by trials and tribulations in our lives is to reveal wrong goals. Tribulations is one of the primary steps on your pathway. “ Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.“ James 1:2-4 God’s goal for you is to mature in Christ.
When you align your goals and desires with God’s desires, you will rid your life from a lot of anger, anxiety and depression. Anxiety signals an uncertain goal, which you have chosen. Depression signals an impossible goal. Anger signals a blocked goal. We sometimes use wrong approaches to reach our goals: we sometimes try to control others, believing that our own self-worth is dependent on other people. In contrast, a godly goal reflects God’s purpose for your life, which does not depend on any people or circumstance.
Emotions can be like a red light on the dashboard of your car indicating engine problems. To fix the problem, one should not bottle up your feelings too long, because it disrupts the harmony between you and God. It is equally unwise to lash out and “honestly tell someone off” at the sacrifice of love. Jesus turned over the tables, not the money-changers. The wisest approach is to confide with at least one person with whom you can be emotionally honest.
In reality, we have very little control over our emotions, but we do have control over our thoughts. That is why it is so important to fill our minds with the Word of God. We need to see God’s perspective and respond accordingly. Add to this prayer: it is not a formula; it’s the language of your relationship with God: simply say “Lord, I love You; I believe in You; I trust You”.
Healing is the most effective way to proclaim the Good News of Christ. More Christians enter into a deeper spiritual life through healing than any other way.
Jesus accomplished two things: “Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons …” Mark 1: 34 Some people simply need healing from the diseases that have made them sick; others need deliverance from the spirits that have made them sick.
We shouldn’t ignore the role demons may play regarding sickness and the demonic signs:
- It is demonic if the discerning of spirits is in operation. The most common way that discernment works is through a “knowing” that something is there.
- It is demonic if the sickness affects the spiritual life of the sick. Physically ill people get furious at preaching. In cases where the sick are not experiencing more spiritual growth but getting bitter, angry, and more sinful, then I believe that their sickness has a demonic root.
- It is demonic if there are strange occurrences taking place with the disease.
We are not saying that every disease is caused by a demon yet, it’s not that common to find illness that’s totally “natural” or one that’s totally “demonic”. There’s almost always an interaction between the two. There is a need for both natural healing and demonic healing.
The words healing and peace are synonymous with each other. You cannot have one without the other. The measure of healing is measured by the degree of peace we are feeling.
Peace is defined as a state of tranquility, of calmness, and healing as a restoration to normalcy. With the ups and downs of relationships, it becomes increasingly difficult to walk the path of life stress-free. Fear, anger, and stress are all barriers to healing; indeed these states often create illness.
Native Americans believe that in order to be mentally healthy, one’s mind, heart and spirit must be in alignment. This means that mind, heart and spirit are meant to be in balance. If all three are equally weighed, one can walk the path of life with far less stress.
Doorways of Satan’s Legal Entry
Scientific methods of investigation of human spiritual problems are not wrong, but just incomplete. Both God and the devil do not submit to these methods of investigation.
Some counselors claim that only 15% of Christians are completely free of Satan’s bondage. Of the remaining, 65% lead a fairly normal Christian life, but at some level of spiritual conflict. A further 15% can be characterized by knowing their own thoughts and distinguishing a strange, evil tug, which can be overpowering. The last 1% to 5% hear voices telling them what to think, say and do.
The family history is important to the counselor: bitterness against parents and oneself? parents or grandparents involvement in a counterfeit religion? harmony in the home? divorces?
At the physical level: eating habits? addictions? trouble sleeping? if one is adopted? if one has been molested? In the mental area: obsessive thoughts? hearing voices? thoughts of suicide? influences from reading material, movies, TV?
Confronting False Concepts
What does one believe about God? Read and re-read God’s Word often (on the last page): carry it with you. You may be asked to listen to spiritual tapes before meeting a counselor.
Deal with the individual — not the demon
One is asked: what fears or anxiety you may now be having? Tell me what you are hearing! Hearing confronting arguments? ( Any opposing thoughts are those of Satan and not one’s own: that is a lie from the devil.)
We never touch a person in a counseling session: one must be free to be repelled by the Holy Spirit, who acts in place of the counselor. A counseled may sometimes feel like they may be violated, even upon a touch. We should always have a third party present when we are dealing with the opposite gender.
Unforgiveness is the most common stronghold that Satan uses (usually parents and oneself). One’s forgiveness must come from the heart. One must forgive, no matter how difficult, in order to be free of the hurts of the pass. You must try to understand the people whom you are trying to forgive, because they were victims themselves.
Deception is deliberately misleading someone to believe something that is not true:
Highly concealed deception includes glorification of earthly riches, worldly pleasures, power, fame, beauty, and knowledge.
Some television programs bring visual images that begin to reach the extremes of corruption which are demonized with sexual spirits. Of course, it depends which programs and channels one watches. People will disbelieve this suggestion, but they have no experience in delivering people from demons that have gained access in this way. That’s why television is sometimes called the devil-vision in Christian circles.
The New Age is deceptive: there are no absolutes only mutual acceptance for whatever set of rules a person wishes to adopt. So the world is very accepting of all manner of beliefs and practices, excepting, the committed Christian’s standpoint that Jesus is the only Way, the only Truth and the only Life.
Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Many believers settle down quickly in their Christian lives assuming that being saved and going to church is enough. “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge,” Hosea 4.6. It is possible to administer to hundreds of people who have been Christians for many years but, have never been filled with the Holy Spirit.
Anything bad which you cannot stop doing, or anything good which you cannot make your self do, could be an area of demonic control. The demon enters as a squatter and an intruder and not as a guest or owner. He comes if the door is open by serious and protracted sin.
If you continue to repeat an act for six weeks, psychologist say you will form a habit and this is how a stronghold on you is established. Your own ability to act contrary to that pattern is virtually non-existent.
Sin is transgressing, violating or trespassing God’s laws in the Bible. It is going outside His prescription for our lives. Whether done knowingly or out of ignorance sin has the same consequences. There are no excuses for breaking spiritual laws.
Sin gives the devil legal entry and God may not allow his grace to stop him. Genesis 4:7 says that “sin was crouching at the door”, or in another translation, “a demon is waiting to get in”.
Satan’s strategy is to introduce his thoughts and ideas into your mind and deceive you into believing that they are yours. One must know how to take a stand against demonic attacks with authority. If one returns to one’s sinful ways, one will end up worse than before. The best way to avoid demonic taunts, is to just say no: we command Satan to leave. Catholics say during Confirmation: “I renounce you, Satan, and all your works and ways” in the name of Jesus Christ.
We deceive ourselves when we think that we can continually associate with bad company and not be corrupted. A demonic transference from one person to another is through an illicit sexual union. When you use your body wrongly through a sexual offense you give Satan a foothold. The only way to control one’s sexual life is to control one’s thought life and pornography.
In God’s eyes, there is no such thing as a homosexual. But there is homosexual behavior which can be traced to past negative experiences with parents or sex. This causes individuals to doubt their sexual adequacy and they begin to believe the devil’s lie about their sexual identity. One pastor asked God why he wasn’t gay but his brother was. The response was that when his brother was in the womb, he took the side of the mother because the father was being unreasonable.
5) Storms of life
Storms of life are unpleasant experiences that befall us out of no fault of our own. They introduce a “crack” where the devil can enter. They can be assets the Holy Spirit can use to our good or they can be assets Satan can use to block us from moving forward. God is able to transform the experiences to eventually work to our good if our focus is on Him rather than our limitations.
6) Generational Sins, Defects & Disorders
This is one of the most common method of transference of a spirit of infirmity from one person to another. In the Old Testament there was a specific ritual for being cleansed after coming into contact with the dead. (Numbers 19) In one case, the infirmities had arisen from a relative who died at about the time the symptoms commenced.
“I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me” Exodus 20:5; Exodus 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9. God knows that the effects of sin are passed down from one generation to the next. When a father has a sinful lifestyle, his children are likely to have the same sinful lifestyle as well. That is why it is not unjust for God to punish sin to the third or fourth generation – because they are committing the same sins their ancestors did. But they are being punished for their own sins, not the sins of their ancestors.
The Bible specifically tells us that God does not hold children accountable for the sins of their parents “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin”. Deuteronomy 24:16
Repenting on behalf of the ancestors is a vital step. It is important to break the ungodly soul-ties that have existed between ourselves and our ancestors.
7) Occult Practices
The lure of the occult is almost always on the basis of acquiring knowledge or power.
There are numerous symbols on popular record albums indicating bondage to Satanism. A high percentage of punk rock and heavy metal are “owned” by Satanists, who have unwittingly sold themselves in exchange for fame and fortune. They find themselves hopelessly lost and lead others astray with their music. For example, the rap singer, Tupac or 2pac, who died prematurely, used demonic lyrics. The youth and their parents must destroy all their paraphernalia, which may be kept in their child’s room or which are worn.
God commands us to have nothing to do with anything that smacks of the occult, devil worship, or involvement with the spirit world through the use of mediums, seances, Ouija boards, horoscopes, tarot cards, channeling, etc. He considers all of these an abomination Deuteronomy 18:9-12; Isaiah 8:19-20; Galatians 5:20; Revelation 21:8, and those who involve themselves in such things invite disaster.
In the old testament, God considered the occult practices of contacting the spirit world for wisdom or guidance for the future an abomination in Moses’ time.
“9 When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritualist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.” Deuteronomy 18:9-12
Father Melvin Doucette has a gift of discernment and he received this message from God recently: “There are many today who are possessed by evil spirits. This has happened because they refused to follow Me and instead they have been involved in all kinds of occult practices. If you get involved in New Age or in Wicca, you can be sure in time you will be possessed by the evil one. A priest can chase the evil one away but if the person is not converted, then the evil spirit will return with seven other evil spirits worst than the first one. Then their situation will be worst than ever. You who are involved in occult practices, I call you to leave this right away and return to Me and you will be liberated.”
Fr. Melvin Doucette was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on March 2, 1939, and ordained to the priesthood with the Missionaries of Africa. After 29 years in Africa, he is now back home near Tignish of Prince Edward Island. He is actively engaged in his healing, intercessory praying, teaching and counseling ministry.
8) Pride and Rebellion
We sometimes are tempted by the thought that we can be successful and live victoriously by our own strength and resources. With pride, we fail to center our lives around God. We also live in a rebellious time: we feel we have a right to criticize others in authority. Biblically we must submit to those in authority and pray for them, unless they are doing something morally wrong. We must adopt a servant’s heart.
In relationships, instead of assuming responsibility for one’s own character, both parties rip apart the other person’s character. In God’s world, our focus is to be fulfilling our responsibilities, not insisting on our rights. Husbands, having a submissive wife is not your right, but being loving and caring is your responsibility. Similarly, having a spiritual husband is not your right, but being submissive and supportive is your responsibility.
Be advised that follow-up sessions are often necessary: sometimes one’s self-esteem or one’s belief in God has been severely damaged. Others may even create an alternate personality to cope with the atrocities that they suffer.
After deliverance, there will be healing, but also, there will be a noticeable change in one’s countenance: look in the mirror after your deliverance and see for yourself. One will notice also that one can read the Bible with ease and understanding for the first time.
DELIVERANCE AND EXORCISM
Exorcism is exercised in case of possession, while deliverance deals with the influences that are not full possession. There are very few cases of possession as compared to ever pervading influence of different kinds of evil spirits affecting many people.
“The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.” Deuteronomy 18:9-15
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth” Philippians 2:10 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me.” Luke 4:18 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
These evil spirits are legalistic and they must be delivered in the Name of Jesus Christ by their function, otherwise the specific spirit would simply say “they are not talking to me” and they will stay.
WHO HAS THE AUTHORITY TO DELIVER EVIL INFLUENCES A faithful Christian who is sinless: otherwise the evil spirits will just laugh at one’s sins.
The person being delivered does not have to be Christian. In fact, if you are a die-hard Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist or any other religion you are in for a big surprise. You will only know by trying it: you have every thing to gain and nothing to lose.
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19 “The one who does what is sinful is of the devil … The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” 1 John 3:8 In the Name of Jesus Christ, you can take authority over all evil influences and break these influences over your life. This is accomplished together with one other Christian who is of God or is very close to God.
HOW DO YOU KNOW A DELIVERANCE HAS TAKEN PLACE?There is a definite sense of peace, which envelopes over the one being delivered. You definitely know something has happened.
Then comes Deliverance!!!
You may be wrapped up in a prickly blanket of sadness, you may be depressed, stressed or anxious, but it isn’t your fault.
You can help yourself more than anyone. The evil influence on you can be defeated through Jesus, the Source of strength. “Every knee will bend before Me” Romans 14:11 That includes all evil spirits influencing you.
To our friends who are Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, Taoist, Mormon or Jehovah Witness:
To our knowledge, there is no one in your religious belief that can bind and deliver demonic spirits. There is a reason for this: demonic attacks are warded off in Jesus’ Name. It requires a bible oriented Christian to do the deliverance. You still can be delivered from your attacks, but it needs that all important Christian to command all evil spirits to go to Jesus Christ who will dispose of them according to His Will and to never return .
The person praying for deliverance must be free of sin otherwise the devil will just laugh.
Prayer of Deliverance
The short form is “In the name of Our Lord Jesus, I bind and deliver the evil spirits of … to go to the abyss.” This is said for each individual evil spirit.
The following prayer can be done together: the person to be delivered must also pray during “OUR PART“: “Come, Holy Spirit, Come” or “Come, Lord Jesus, Come” silently.
Your Christian friend will command these spirits to go back where they came from (the abyss) to be soon replaced with the Love and Blessing of the Lord: Free in Jesus
The void that that takes place brings a complete sense of peace, and you will now be free in Jesus.
(In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I command all evil spirits influencing you now, as you read this, to be quiet and not to give you any evil thoughts. This I command in the Name of Jesus.)
If you don’t believe this, try it and see for yourself. You will definitely know in three minutes that a physical change has taken place.
The person delivered must now thank God for the spiritual healing every day until the total deliverance has taken place and to thank Him whenever he or she thinks about it. One must soak oneself in God’s love by reading the Bible: the short gospel of Luke for beginners and later the gospels of John.
The delivered person does not want to ever go back to the ever pervading influence of evil spirits. It is very important to connect with a Bible-oriented church.
This same prayer of deliverance can be used to exhort evil influences on members of your family by name in the same manner with you as the intercessor and with your prayerful Christian. They should be made aware of your prayer as a gentle mention that you have prayed for them so they can become more sensitized to God’s Love.
This prayer of deliverance can be printed, quartered and kept in your wallet.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I am clean living!” They whisper “I was lost, but now I’m found and forgiven.”
- Christians don’t speak of this with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they are trying to be strong because they are really weak and need strength.
- Christians don’t brag of success, but they admit that they are failing and they need God to clean up the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect. Their flaws are far too visible but God believes they are worth it.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain and they have their share of headaches but they call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than thou. They are also simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will have begun. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49
Are we not like Barabbas justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to this Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading the Gospel according to Luke and then John: It is all about love and you will love it. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. Soaking yourself in the love of God defends you from attacks of the enemy.
