You might already love writing lists even about God. You simply start writing down the things that you’ve always wanted to do but that you never got around to doing like bungee jumping, skydiving, traveling to Italy or learning French; something that you have always wanted to do. Sound simple? Let’s talk about Bucket List of God.
Your initial list doesn’t have to be a “Pie in the Sky” list. The key of course is to simply start writing the first things that come into your head. By this way, you are being true to your innermost core, and being honest with yourself is the most important thing of all. Like many people, your career is probably at the top of your bucket list. Yet, don’t be surprised — someday — when you look back on your life and say, “Is that all there is?” Maybe you should find some balance in your life.
Our Creator is in the business of creating order out of chaos. God uses lists to help us order our lives and learn more about him. He used a seven-day plan to create the universe. He gave Moses a list on Mount Sinai—the Ten Commandments. Jesus provided a wonderfully useful list of eternal values, the Beatitudes, as a code of ethics for those who would follow him. The nine fruit of the Spirit are listed in Galatians as virtues God develops in every believer. God doesn’t want us to obsess about making lists or panic about checking off dozens of specific tasks before we die, but lists can be very handy.
Maybe you forgot the spiritual things in life? Where is God in all this?” It’s time to stop thinking about what you want and instead consider and discern what God wants. God’s bucket list for your life might include things that have a bit more eternal value. Things that help you leave a worthy legacy or break through the roadblocks in your life. There we will find abundance beyond measure.
“The key to this grand way of living life is submitting to God’s version of fulfillment and abundance instead of insisting He bless, approve and put the final stamp on our own version of things.” We are talking about real joy that is bigger and better than anything we have imagined.
Your goals for your life are not nearly as important as God’s goals for your life. Don’t be surprised if all your careful planning and goal setting gets set aside by the master planner himself. The Bible reminds us, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” Proverbs 16:9
Maybe it’s time for you to live full: to find your place in this world . . . and the next. Maybe it’s time to ask, “What if God wrote my bucket list?”
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
Scripture tells us only God knows the desires of our hearts. It was, after all, God who placed desires there because they are designed to lead us to His will for our lives. Why, then, is it so challenging at times to figure out if we are on the right track when it comes to what we believe that we want or need? So what is God’s Bucket List? What would be on it?
First, I will tell you what it is not – it is not a “get happy” quick schemes that requires no changes in how you live your life. “Thy will be done,” rather than “My will be done,” which so many of us, Christian or not, actually live by.
Isaiah 55:8 reminds us that God’s “thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways, my ways…” So often seeking our own will is the source of our unhappiness. We think we know what is best for ourselves – a job, a relationship, wealth. But when we get what we want (or think we want), we too often find we are still not satisfied, not happy. “God’s Bucket List” reminds us that happiness comes from accepting God’s plan for us. When we actively seek and accept God’s plan we are often surprised at what it is that really makes us happy. The real bucket list is already designed by none other than God Himself.
God’s Bucket List is more than a list; it is our own journey towards God and making His will our will. The key to this grand way of living life is submitting to God’s version of fulfillment and abundance instead of insisting He bless, approve, and put the final stamp on our version of things.
We may not be able to fully understand God but we know that He loves us and wants to remain close to us. His bucket list would have to be very special: an act of unconditional love.
Don’t just do something: sit there.
The question remains: how do we figure this out? We cannot find God in noise and agitation. In nature we find silence–the trees, flowers, and grass grows in silence. The stars, the moon, and the sun move in silence. . . . What is essential is not what we say but what God tells us and what He tells others through us. In silence He listens to us. In silence He speaks to our souls. In silence we are granted the privilege of listening to His small quiet voice.
When was the last time you actually allowed yourself to just be still, with no distractions from the TV, radio, iPhone, or laptop? It seems that God has become marginalized in Christians’ lives and consequently Christians are vulnerable to adopting secular assumptions, which leads to even more busyness.
A quarter of Americans say they are ‘often’ or ‘always’ too busy to think about their future. Our media-saturated culture isn’t exactly helping matters either. Thirty-six percent mentioned their usage of electronic devices is a problem. Thirty-one percent of those surveyed said the immediacy of communication through social media and texting was “distracting”–a percentage that increases with each generation. The bad news is that not enough of us are slowing down enough to really reflect on how we want to live our lives. We just seem to be going from one task, one assignment, and one errand to the next. Put simply, we are no longer able to hear God-
The American Academy of Pediatrics issued statements recommending that students in grade school and high school be limited to two hours of media every day – not the present average of 7.5 hours per day. They further insist that there be no TV for children two years or younger.
As Psalm 46:10 says:“Be still and know that I am God.” In silence He speaks to our souls; in silence we are granted the privilege of listening to His voice. Try it! Just sit there and breathe. Eventually there can be a fluttering of your heart or a sense of relief that washes over you. It makes you feel different. Be patient — it might happen after a half hour.
Develop your Talents
Anne Frank wrote that we really don’t know how great we can be; how much we can love; what we can accomplish and what our potential is.
You’ve been gifted to do God’s will! Sometimes people feel they have nothing to offer. But 1 Corinthians 7:7 says this – “each of you has your own gift from God.” And the truth is that each one of us is a unique creation. There is no one else just like you. Each one of us has different skills, abilities and passions given in different measure that we may fulfill the calling God has placed upon our lives. Even more so, we are granted spiritual gifts to help us in the ministry that God has given to each one. God has already given us exactly what we need to discover ourselves and what He wants us to achieve.
A big part of the process is recognizing your gifts and your talents. We need God’s help in this search. The desire for God is written in the human heart because man is created by God and for God and God never ceases to draw man closer to Himself.
God knows our hearts better than we do. Who better to help us determine our vocation that the ultimate vocation director Himself. God want us to find our vocation, to embrace it, and to live it out joyfully. So when we find our vocation we experience a sense of peace. As we make a decision of faith, we eventually set out on a journey that last a lifetime. Our well lived life becomes a daily thing. We begin to understand that God has created us to do Him some definite service, which He has not committed to any other.
· “He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out” John 10:3
· “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” John 6:27
What is Truth?
We are all servants or followers of the truth. Truth will not pass away or change. The truth is still the truth even if nobody believes it. Some of us stumble upon the truth and run the other way. When we do that we wade in dangerous waters: we become shark bait.
The truth is we tend to live each day as though the days of our lives will last forever. It’s only when we get that wake-up call and we have a brush with death, or someone near us dies, or we come face to face with our own terminal illness, that we began to see the days of our lives in a different light. And we realize that the days will not go on forever.
Our time is limited. Life can be cut short at any moment. At that time, things that once seemed so important began to lose their appeal, and those things that we tended to take for granted – like God, and family and friends – we develop a new appreciation for them. In other words, it makes sense that we should try to make the most of every moment that is given to us.
Remember the story in the Old Testament when the Hebrews started to worship the golden calf. God certainly held the people accountable for their corruption. Our prosperous and comfortable society is a bit like that golden calf. Our culture has forgotten God. Today Christians allow themselves to be changed by the culture: we want to assimilate and fit in and in the process we have bleached out God. In addition, our society has been extremely critical to religious authority: why should we believe the leaders of the Church?
How many of us say we believe in God, yet we have never made an effort to read the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God, and it is to be taken seriously, not lightly like a hobby. A Bible study group may be the solution to developing a much deeper relationship with Jesus.
But is what the Church teaches true? Your conscience must be informed. We are not talking about some clergy who sin overtly. We simply ask if there is any error in the teachings. Remember, it is the Holy Spirit that has given His spiritual interpretation to the Scriptures.
Are you saying that you know more about these two thousand years of teaching? Or are you saying that some to the Church’s teachings are simply to hard too live by? If that is your position, you have already defeated yourself.
So what is the Bottom Line?
We must develop a personal relationship with Jesus. We must fall in love with Jesus all over again: that’s all that matters. Maybe this falling in love thing seems odd and unreal. The problem may be that we really don’t know how much God loves us. This type of unconditional love is unheard of in today’s culture, where commitment is a scary world.
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
- “You will be My treasured possession.” Exodus 19:5
- “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
Your desire for self-sufficiency and freedom can severe your dependence on your loving God. The consequence may be that you create in yourself a false destiny. You could lose sight of the eternal joy for which you have been made. You could lose sight of heaven’s sure fire way to happiness in this life and beyond.
God has a plan for each of our lives and wants to help us unfold that plan. He promises the ‘abundant life’ for all who embrace the challenge to follow Him. Not until we put God at the center do we find peace and a different kind of success.
Now I understand well that what unites our soul most closely to God is self-denial; that is, joining our will to the will of God. This is what makes the soul truly free, contributes to profound recollection of the spirit, and makes all life’s burdens light, and death sweet.
Message to St. Faustina: Diary 462
So the most important bucket list item for success in life is falling in love with God and putting Him first.
God divinely inspired the BIBLE . How do we know? Each of eight accurate predictions show a high probability mathematically. The probability of one individual fulfilling eight prophecies have odds of 1 in 10 17 (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000). Jesus Christ fulfilled all prophecies, therefore the Bible MUST BE TRUE.
The Old Testament indicates another 40 astonishing predictions.
Christianity experiences stunning growth—from approximately 3.8 million adherents in China in 1956 to an estimated 87 to 100 million Christians today.
In the end, one Christian conversion will benefit the whole family. The gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and deliverance will help the whole family. A prayer of deliverance of evil spirits will leave any member of the family with a complete sense of peace immediately. A prayer of healing from a Christian disciple produces 80% healing. The remaining healing comes from continued prayer of praise and thanksgiving until all the healing is complete. This healing comes from the Holy Spirit through the power in the Name of Jesus Christ. No other god or deity or doctor uses this power. This proves the TRUTH OF CHRISTIANITY.
BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS CAN’ T ALL BE WRONG!
Christianity is not a philosophy, but it is a relationship with God, your Creator, in Christ TODAY. It is not knowledge of abstract principles. How do we know this? Healing takes place TODAY in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Many Christian disciples use the gift of healing. They also use deliverance to deliver away evil spirits influencing people. These evil spirits cause depression, addictions and illness through all forms of stress. Only the Name of Jesus Christ makes healing and deliverance possible.
HOW IS JESUS STILL ALIVE TODAY?
Jesus is alive today! He heals today (through His followers) and in many cases it is realized immediately. How else can you explain the explosion of Christianity, the world’s largest religion, on earth: 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31 percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.
Christians know and feel His Presence; they communicate with Him personally; Christian prayers are always answered.
This author has been given the Gift of Healing only because he is a Christian Lay Missionary, who travels two to three places every year. On his last trip to Columbia he successfully transferred his Gift to his Spanish translators, who were able to heal as he did. He has healed Muslims to their great surprise.
He also delivers away evil spirits along with their healing. All those who are delivered from evil spirits feel a complete physical sense of peace.
DREAMS AND VISIONS
God can give a message to those non-Christians to change their heart. God knows faith will be developed eventually. God will come to you in the form of dreams or visions. So be sensitive to any dreams or visions, when you ask God for it earnestly.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I live a clean life!” Christians whisper “I feel lost, but now God found me and God forgives me.”
- Christians don’t speak with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they try to be strong because they need strength.
- Christians don’t brag about success, but they admit that they fail and they need God to clean the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect, but God still believes in them.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain. They have their share of headaches but they still call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than others. They are simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will begin. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49
Are we not like Barabbas who was justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost, like you.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool”. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to a Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading a short biography of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. He will defend you from attacks of the enemy when you ask Him.
