Dying people’s wishes are often unknown or ignored. Doctors often neglect palliative care, which involves giving an opioid for pain, treating breathlessness and counseling patients. Most doctors enter medicine to help people delay death, not to talk about its inevitability. But talk they must. A good start would be the wider use of the “Serious Illness Conversation Guide” drawn up by Atul Gawande. It is a short questionnaire designed to find out what terminally ill patients know about their condition and to understand what their goals are as the end nears. Early research suggests it encourages more, earlier conversations and reduces suffering.
Living wills are rare outside America as illustrated by the following set of questions:
The huge gap between what people want from end-of-life care and what they are likely to get is visible in the above survey. In all four countries the majority of people said they hoped to die at home. But fewer said they expected to do so—and even fewer said that their deceased loved ones had.
The paradox of modern medicine is that people are living longer, and yet doing so with more disease. Death is rarely either quick or painless. Often it is traumatic. Death mostly comes by stealth. Only a fifth of deaths are sudden, for example in a car crash. Another fifth follow a swift decline, as with some cancer patients, who stay fairly active until their final few weeks. But three-fifths come after years of relapse and recovery. They involve a slow, progressive deterioration of function. One study found that Americans experience confusion, depression and pain in their final year: all of which increased.
Many deaths are preceded by a surge of treatment, often pointless. The way health care is funded encourages over-treatment. Hospitals are paid for doing things to people, not for preventing pain. But honest and open conversations with the dying should be as much a part of modern medicine as prescribing drugs or fixing broken bones. A better death means a better life, right until the end.
Contemporary society, with all of its many palliatives, has conditioned us to expect no inconveniences, including death. Death can only be understood when it is accepted as a natural occurrence, not an injustice or the ultimate inconvenience. It becomes a tragedy when it is premature.
Euthanasia could be a serious option for everyone to consider. However, the reptilian part of one’s brain tries to keep a person alive despite insurmountable odds. Life is precious and the instinct to live is strong in the young and middle aged and the elderly and the disabled who shouldn’t be deprived of living as long as they want to live even if they suffer some pain, and nobody should feel that they are a burden and be forced to give up on their lives to be politically correct and to join the culture of “easy death” as pushed by the Medical Industrial Complex.
Since we are not born with an ‘on/off’ switch, it seems reasonable to continue on to a broader societal discussion of the management of suffering, and what a humane ending of life will look like as a standard practice in the field of medicine. Here are the results of a study of where to die.
A good life is a spiritually connected life. That said, it is unfortunate there is often no mention of one’s faith.
FEAR OF THE AFTERLIFE
The most common affliction is fear…fear of the afterlife, fearing pain in old age, fearing loss of loved ones, accumulations and our comfort zones etc ,etc. Resuscitation attempts, which in many cases, border on the ridiculous, add to this fear. The fear of death is irrational and robs us of enjoying the present moment. The energy wasted on fear is better spent on doing positive things with your life, spending time with family and friends, building relationships, and having fun, come what may.
Word of God
As the Word of God, the Bible is the revelation of the sovereign God who has reached out to us in Christ and in the Bible. Those of us who believe we are not merely biological beings but also spiritual and answer to a Creator must take into account what Scripture says.
The Word of God assures us that the victory accomplished for us by the Lord Jesus means a glorious, eternal inheritance “an inheritance which is incorruptible, undefiled, that fadeth not away, which is reserved in heaven for those who are kept by the power of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ” I Peter 1:3-5.
OUR LIFE AFTER DEATH
What happens after death? Is there life after death?
You’ve died! Now what? Is the best yet to come?
The religious have always looked from this life to the next
What they see is truly in the eyes of the beholder. They can’t all be right.
You should be delighted that there is life after death: you will continue to learn and discover how history turns out.
Everything in the universe has a beginning and end.
It is impossible at present to avoid a decrease of our health during aging. it’s a subject that we all have to deal with, sooner or later. Unless you get hit by a bus, YOU WILL GET FRAIL! Aging is the accumulated damage of use.
Boomers will lean towards assisted dying to the extent they do not trust end of life care to be timely, and dignified, according to their wishes for treatment, so as not breaking the bank or squandering the inheritances they want to leave to their kids.
It is refreshing to see that we are starting to have a serious public discourse about this important aspect of life. We need to become educated and proactive when it comes to our own health care decisions.
RISK OF HELL
The alternative to hell is explained by Paul who says that when he departs, he will “be with Christ,” which is “very much better”. In 2 Corinthians 5:8 Paul teaches that to be absent from the body is “to be at home with the Lord.” It’s a going home experience.
RISK OF PURGATORY
We know that many current Protestant beliefs deny the communion of saints. They rely on their entire salvation of Jesus Christ to save the day. They are proud of the position that they have taken, but wouldn’t it be safer to take out “fire insurance” in case of the possibility that there might be more needed than the “entire salvation of Jesus Christ to save the day”.
You may continue to affirm that Christ’s righteousness is “the gift of salvation because Christ pardons them of sin in such a way that they are no longer required to pay any sort of debt of punishment” So consequently you say that there is no need for purgatory.
Let us take a different tact. If what you believe is true, what would happen if you are wrong? I will explain the risk: your beloved ones who have died would be doomed to stay in purgatory without any hope of relief before eventually going to heaven. They await your loving prayers but to no avail, because you simply don’t believe in purgatory.
One should rather live one’s life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn’t, than live one’s life as if there isn’t, and die to find out there is. Unknown author
There is a similar risk related to buying fire insurance. You would be foolish not to protect yourself from the outside chance that you would suffer from fire damage (in our case the fire of purgatory). You buy fire insurance even though may never need it (in our case, belief in Purgatory)
What if the deceased leave all the ties of this earth behind and are eventually forgotten. What a tragedy! They can no longer appeal to their loved ones to pray for them to ease their journey. Even the ancient Egyptians thought enough of their loved ones to leave valuable items that they might need in another world. Perhaps we somehow got mixed up with the failed attempt to sell indulgences in the Middle Ages and so we began to deny the existence of purgatory and the need to pray for the souls in purgatory.
A positive and compassionate response to a dying patient’s needs can be found in good palliative care. Palliative care affirms life while recognizing that death is part of living. Palliative care does not seek to lengthen or shorten a patient’s last days but to make them as rewarding and pain free as possible. The emphasis is on comfort rather that cure. The patient has a say in all decisions about treatments and pain can be relieved to allow patients to die with true human dignity.
If there is a “right to die” it surely should be the right to die naturally rather than to be subjected to a lethal injection.
HEALING PRAYER FOR THE DIEING
Upon praying for those who are close to death, a prayer of healing of the Disciple of Healing will bring that person through the door of death without an awful fear. And if that person is to live, he or she will be given the grace to live.
While the Bible gives us some clues, the 20th century mystic St. Faustina received a particularly vivid vision, which she recorded in her diary:
When I entered my solitude, I heard these words, “At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person, the indulgence is the same. When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, God’s anger is placated, unfathomable mercy envelops the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion of My Son”. Oh, if only everyone realized how great the Lord’s mercy is and how much we all need that mercy, especially at that crucial hour! Diary 811
JESUS WISHES TO SPEAK TO YOU.
I Wish to Give you My Peace Today.
“I love you. Peace be with you, My brother and sister.
I wish to give you My peace today. Let this divine gift penetrate your soul and fill you completely. The peace I give is not the same as the peace the world gives. The world can give only a poor imitation of this peace.
This peace of mine comes as a result of a deep communion with Me which rides above all your cares and worries. It is a special grace from My heart.
Absence of hostility is not necessarily peace because there can still be resentment and animosity in your hearts.
You cannot have peace without love and forgiveness. Forgive all those who harm you in any way and begin to love them and you will have peace.
Where there is peace, I am present there for I am the author of peace. Invite Me into your heart and I will bring you this precious gift of peace.
Pray daily for this gift and I will give it to you. Your peace will then flow to others and will fill them too.
Be channels of peace to your brothers and sisters for so many live in turmoil.
Every day you hear of people dying, some are old and others are not so old. There is nobody who can live forever on the earth.
Every human life has a birth and a death. Your life on earth, My brother and sisters is vitally important for eternity. Life does not end at death, it is only changed. The way you live your life on earth to a great extend will determine how you will spend your eternity.
If your life was lived apart from Me on earth, you will not be united with Me in the next.
It is important that you conform to My word because your eternity depends on it. There are too many people going to hell today. This means they have failed completely in their life on earth.
You still have time to amend your life and I will give you the grace to do so, if you ask Me. Do not allow the pleasures of the moment to jeopardize your eternal happiness with Me.
Live today and everyday as if it was your last day on earth. Place your heart in Me. I bless you all.”
The above messages came to Father Melvin Doucette:
Fr. Melvin Doucette was ordained to the priesthood on and joined the Missionaries of Africa for 29 years in Africa. In contemplative prayer every morning, Fr. Doucette receives by interior locution “messages from heaven” to share with the public.
God divinely inspired the BIBLE . How do we know? Each of eight accurate predictions show a high probability mathematically. The probability of one individual fulfilling eight prophecies have odds of 1 in 10 17 (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000). Jesus Christ fulfilled all prophecies, therefore the Bible MUST BE TRUE.
The Old Testament indicates another 40 astonishing predictions.
Christianity experiences stunning growth—from approximately 3.8 million adherents in China in 1956 to an estimated 87 to 100 million Christians today.
In the end, one Christian conversion will benefit the whole family. The gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and deliverance will help the whole family. A prayer of deliverance of evil spirits will leave any member of the family with a complete sense of peace immediately. A prayer of healing from a Christian disciple produces 80% healing. The remaining healing comes from continued prayer of praise and thanksgiving until all the healing is complete. This healing comes from the Holy Spirit through the power in the Name of Jesus Christ. No other god or deity or doctor uses this power. This proves the TRUTH OF CHRISTIANITY.
BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS CAN’ T ALL BE WRONG!
Christianity is not a philosophy, but it is a relationship with God, your Creator, in Christ TODAY. It is not knowledge of abstract principles. How do we know this? Healing takes place TODAY in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Many Christian disciples use the gift of healing. They also use deliverance to deliver away evil spirits influencing people. These evil spirits cause depression, addictions and illness through all forms of stress. Only the Name of Jesus Christ makes healing and deliverance possible.
HOW IS JESUS STILL ALIVE TODAY?
Jesus is alive today! He heals today (through His followers) and in many cases it is realized immediately. How else can you explain the explosion of Christianity, the world’s largest religion, on earth: 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31 percent) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.
Christians know and feel His Presence; they communicate with Him personally; Christian prayers are always answered.
This author has been given the Gift of Healing only because he is a Christian Lay Missionary, who travels two to three places every year. On his last trip to Columbia he successfully transferred his Gift to his Spanish translators, who were able to heal as he did. He has healed Muslims to their great surprise.
He also delivers away evil spirits along with their healing. All those who are delivered from evil spirits feel a complete physical sense of peace.
DREAMS AND VISIONS
God can give a message to those non-Christians to change their heart. God knows faith will be developed eventually. God will come to you in the form of dreams or visions. So be sensitive to any dreams or visions, when you ask God for it earnestly.
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
- Christians don’t shout, “I live a clean life!” Christians whisper “I feel lost, but now God found me and God forgives me.”
- Christians don’t speak with pride. They confess that they stumble and need Christ to be their guide.
- Christians don’t say,” I’m strong.” They say they try to be strong because they need strength.
- Christians don’t brag about success, but they admit that they fail and they need God to clean the mess.
- Christians don’t claim to be perfect, but God still believes in them.
- Christians still feel the sting of pain. They have their share of headaches but they still call upon His Name.
- Christians are not holier than others. They are simple sinners who receive God’s unbelievable Grace.
Christianity on a Table Napkin:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
God the Father will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain. We will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is The Holy Spirit will have made all things new. Eternal joy will begin. “For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name.” Luke 1: 49
Are we not like Barabbas who was justly condemned for murder, but saved by the innocent Jesus on the cross? Are we not like the adulterous woman, deserving of death by stoning, to whom Jesus says, “I do not condemn you”? And Jesus saved them both. In fact, Jesus came to earth specifically to look for and save those who were lost, like you.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool”. Isaiah 1:18
You may need some counseling with a pastor, priest or competent Christian worker, who will introduce you to a Short Course on Who is Jesus? Start by reading a short biography of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. Read several verses before going to bed and read the same verse upon arising. He will defend you from attacks of the enemy when you ask Him.
